ok guys, iv plan on getting the dedicated server from OVH ( Start 100M 29.99pound/mth ) what do u guys think about this? Good or bad choice? Or should i get Raptor 3 from hosting-ie?

People using the same plan please give some info.

Thanks

OVH is one of ,if not the, best seedbox providers in the world. The problem with OVH is that you have to live in a certain few european countries in order to order from them. With that, enjoy your hosting ie raptor, lol.

OVH servers provide quite high/consistent speeds and they are quite economical. I am using kimsufi for some time now and so far have no complain.

We'll then enjoy your OVH box lol. Honestly if your looking for speed on a budget you can't go wrong with the kimsufi's. You have to run linux on them , but once they're up in running their among the fastest server's out there. I'd only recommend the package that you were looking at, if you want extra HD space and/or you are wanting to run windows on it.

Oh so if i run linux i can get the even cheaper one? lol than ill rather go for the cheap one first than upgrade when needed the currency exchange from pounds to SGD is retarded..lol anyway i know how to use linux too. So what kind of download/up speeds do u get? And is the service respond good? ( sure seems better than hosting-ie from what i saw in other threads )

Most people can hit speeds of around 10mb/s ul&dl on the kimsufi's. Their service is so so, as they tend to respond in french but they're fairly quick at least. Hope that helps.

Cheers!

nope, they respond only in language which you select while customizing you seedbox.

No they still send you some stuff in french even if you select english. It does redirect you to the language of your choice, but not always.

Yep, it handles like a dream with fedora. I hear that fedora has the least issues with disk overload, but that i'm not 100% about.

Hmm it says page not found, i found the post with the search button and its working. Btw whats the difference between the Dedi *Kimsufi* and the VPS *RPS1*

Sanka113
04-16-2008, 05:01 PM
The kimsufi is a dedicated server and the RPS is shared. The RPS's suck ballz. They're slow and unreliable and pale in comparison to the kimsufi.

Lucky for me my UK friend is helping me order, phew lucky i havent order it yet. The kimsufi just upgraded! And the price still looking good.

So now with 1GB i can use Windows 2003?

Bfietta
04-18-2008, 10:12 AM
1gb is enough to use Win2003, sure. But If i'm right OVH doesn't offer win 2003 anymore?
if they do it is more expensive.

rulebreaker
04-18-2008, 10:14 AM
They still do and its free.

Windows ISNT free. You pay an extra $10-15 for a windows license. With linux and wine you'll be just fine. Hey that rhymed...okay feel free to stop me anytime.

er it is free? when i order with windows 2003 selected its till the same amount + VAT.

Sanka113
04-18-2008, 11:13 AM
Hmm maybe that was part of the reload. When i placed my orders a couple months ago it was extra. I do remember seeing something on the forums about them doing something with the availability of windows.

For a seedbox windows isn't neccessary . Linux takes up less resources which means more torrents at faster speeds. Also windows tends to get disc overload errors alot more frequently then windows does. With naqs linux guide setting up you r seedbox with linux is a cinch.

I consulted OVH about upgrading my current kimsufi and this is what they have to say.

You can take advantage of the new Kimsufi's by ordering one of them at the end of your contract. Upgrading the RAM would not make your current Kimsufi into a Kimsufi XL, and you may in any case preffer to order a Kimsufi XXL which will become available next week.

Be careful if you order(ed) two servers with the same OVH account.
If you don't have a reseller account or don't pay for the VIP stuff, the bandwidth used by all of yours servers should not exceed 101 mbits per sec.
If you don't respect that limit, they can reduce the bw to 10 mbits/s or less.

At least, this is how it works for OVH in France and after reading several topics about OVH seedboxes, it seems to be the case for OVH in general.

So, the solution is to rent two servers with two separated accounts (or to pay that VIP thing which costs 900 euros :\).

yayyyyyy
04-23-2008, 05:30 PM
aren't kimsufi always into the QoS, and not only when exceeding the 101mbps?

Judging by my own experience, it seems it's not the case.
I do have a server which seeds on bt and downloads things on usenet all the day. And I do not suffer of any limitations.

A friend of mine has a server on which he's hosting a xdcc bot, a bt client and a lot of others things. OVH sometimes limits its bw for several hours.

both of you have a single server (100mbit) on your account... on is limited from time to time... and the other is not? how's he passing the 100mbits with 1 single server? :/

Sorry if I wasn't clear... We do not share the same account. Both of us have a separate account. So, any restriction applied to his account only affects his server, not mine (since i do have my own account).

Also, what I wanted to point out is that even if you don't exceed that limit of 101 mbps, OVH can complain about the use of your bandwidth. For instance, your server uploads and downloads all the day at 80-100 mbps. My friend do this everyday. So, OVH sometimes reduce the bandwidth of his account from 100mbps to 5mbps for several hours. Ok?

About that limit of 101 mbps, it's possible to exceed it if you're renting several servers with the same account. ie: You have three servers which seed data at the same moment. Without any problem, you can reach that limit... And after that, OVH will start to reduce the bw allowed to your servers. This problem often occurs when a person is reselling servers he's renting with the same OVH account.

If you only rent one server, you can't exceed it. But they can complain about the use of the bw (see what i wrote in the second paragraph).
