I guess the ones on long term contracts (free or paid for) - no.

If on monthly contract just get a new server and cancel the old server.

Not for much longer. All the ovh sites are upgrading the kimsufi's. Also, why would anyone want to buy the old kimsufis if the price is the same as the ones with upgraded ram and hard disk space?

I clicked order on the £14.99 kimsufi but got the reloaded one (1gb ram, 250gb HD). Price seems to be £19.99 in the UK.

Front page hasn't been amended yet, but when you try to order, all the order options are the same as the French one now, 5 kimisurfs to choose from (use the dropdown menu to choose).

How many kimisurfs are used as torrent/ftp boxes? Im starting to think more than half.

I can't figure out why people are so excited about the 1GB RAM upgrade. When it comes to general torrenting, you can easily max out a 100mbit line using a Linux machine with 256MB RAM. The only time you're likely to see a difference in torrenting is when you try to create a new torrent, in which case it becomes a little bit harder to maintain a very high speed (>5MBPS upload/download), but that only takes a few minutes a day if at all.

The only major upgrade is in the HD space imho.

Well i am using kimsufi with 256gb ram. And when i download a torrent, i mostly get disk overload as soon as download speed reaches around 3-4 MB which eventually slows down the upload speed. Pardon me if disk overload has nothing to do with ram.

actually it has the same bandwidth (100/100) :P. but by all means, this is probably a very good seedbox :D.

OVH servers soon going to become oversold and might suffer fate like FDC. I hope i prove wrong as OVH provides most economical servers and most of us can afford it.

UK OVH have updated their range:

http://www.ovh.co.uk/products/dedicated_list.xml

Much cheaper to buy from France if you can.

Check out their Kimisurfs though, rumour has it the XXl will be:

Le processeur est un Core2Duo cadencé à 2x2.53GHz. Il a 3Go de
RAM et 500Go de disque dur. Il est proposé à 46Euro HT/mois.
La même version en 2x500Go (RAID-0/1) est proposé à 56Euro HT/mois

If you will look carefully at the bottom of the page near the '*' mark you will notice:
"OVH is commiting to donate Sgt. 1£+VAT for any box sold through FST."

It is typed real small with invisible ink...

^^^ That one sounds like a beast. I'm really disappointed that the ovh uk's price for the kimsufis were raised ,even though they said they wouldn't. I kinda feel that their ripping their UK customers by charging them five more pounds, when their french counterparts continue to pay the same prices as before. Looks like more people will have to shift their focus on finding french resellers now.

TidusBlade
04-20-2008, 12:34 PM
Yeah, but an extra 5 pounds for 4x the RAM and 140GB more HD space is a pretty good deal if you ask me, especially now that you can run Windows server on it easily.

Sanka113
04-20-2008, 12:40 PM
Like i said, the french ovh added more ram and stuff to their servers too, with no added cost. Raising the prices for UK residents seems a little strange to me. Fortunately, they give you back the difference back in something called loyalty points. Loyalty points are pretty much credits given to you for continuing your service with them. Once you get enough points you can use those to pay for a free months of rent or whatever. I'd still rather just have the price remain the same though.

Im buying it from a friend living in the UK, so maybe you might know someone who lives in the UK or France or something?

@Sanka113: I still think I'm getting a great deal here, but I didn't know French OVH prices stayed the same...

Do any of you realize how embarrassing it is to PAY for free files?
You'd know what a joke it is, if any of you were true sceners.

Well, I guess that's just p2p!!

what must also be embarrassing is bumping an old ass thread for that comment...
