I had a problem (http://www.klboard.ath.cx/bb/index.php?showtopic=60080) with pesky ActiveX web installer popups at crack search pages.
Here (http://install.xxxtoolbar.com/download_straight.html)'s an example of such a web installer (i'd say, don't install it  ).
Paul told me to change the ActiveX settings in IE, which works quit well except for the fact
that you have to change them globally (which I didn't want to do cause not all DirectX stuff is bad)
or you can manually add specific sites to the IE "restricted sites" and only change the settings for those. (screenshot (http://classyladytwo.com/oe_setup/restricted%20sites.jpg)).
Some sites however check your DirectX setting and start complaining about them...
Bottom line: It's not a perfect solution.
Here's the good news:
SpywareBlaster (http://www.webattack.com/get/spywareblaster.shtml)
It does exactly what I want it to do; block only the malicious ActiveX stuff whitout turning off ActiveX in IE.
The best thing about this program is that it works while the program is not running!
All you have to do is run it once, update your spyware definitions, block all that stuff (it can even block spyware cookies) and close the program.
Haven't been bothered since...
Oh, its only 670 K small and freeware.
What else do you want?
