View Full Version : Calzaghe v Hopkins

Mr JP Fugley

I think Calzaghe will underline what a quality boxer he is. He intends retiring this year so this is probably his last or last but one fight so I'm sure he will be up for it.

Hopkin's racist attacks will also have helped focus Calzaghe.

Mr JP Fugley

Hopkins sparked controversy when he taunted Calzaghe by telling him ahead of their April 19 showdown in Las Vegas that he has never lost to a "white boy".

I suspect that it would have been described as racist if Calzaghe had said something like "I've never lost to a black boy".

Fortunately he didn't say that. Tho' to be fair there was never any indication that he may do so.

Neither did he say "I've never lost to a black boy", however that's not surprising as he has never given any indication that he is a racist.

Hopkins on the other hand did say "I've never lost to a white boy". Which is clearly a racist comment.

you are right, he did make the racial comment. now if hopkins had said whitey or cracka, that to me would indicate hatred and equal racist. white boy is slang just as brotha is slang.

Saying he'd "never lost to a white boy" implied that he thinks a "white boy" isn't a challenge to him. It'd make no difference if he had said "whitey" or "cracka", the fact that he brought race into it at all is where the racism lies.

Based on your arguement for the scottish premier being more competitive than the english premier due to the number of top teams compared to the number of total teams in the league; would ewe say that enzo calzaghe was one of the (if not the) best bawcksing trainers in the wurld having coached a few champions from a place where there's only about 20 people?

I like the Executioner. I always have. Why does he have to put
his foot in his mouth - so often?

"I say things other people won't say. Martin Luther King had that.
Marcus Garvey had that. Gandhi had that.

-Bernard Hopkins

I love how he compared himself to Gandhi. That was fucking brilliant.

It's going to be an awesome fight. Calzaghe and Hopkins both
have ginormous hearts. I'm quite fond of Joe's unorthodox style.
It will prolly give Bernard trouble. All night (all night).

I'm going with the beast from Philly ftw. Despite the afore
mentioned foot.

I hold that Bernard has faced better fighters than Joe
is a tad quicker, and he is black.

Congratulations to Joe Calzaghe for winning his first fight in America, the light heavyweight title to add to his super welterweight achievements and for retaining his unbeaten record.

It's good to see that Hopkins was as much of a prick after the fight than he was before it.

"I won a unanimous decision and I made it look relatively easy. I knocked him down. I controlled the pace. I made him fight my fight"

Such a pity two of the judges didn't agree, racist. Oh and given that two made Calzaghe a clear winner and one gave it to you by one point it wasn't even close.

Chuck Giampa seeing it 116-111 and Ted Gimza making it 115-112 for the Welshman. Adalaide Byrd scored it 114-113 for Hopkins.

Is the judge who gave Hopkins the decision a burd. :O

there's no doubt Hopkins was alot stronger than Joe. i reckon if he would of caught him again with one of those big rights, like he did in the first round, Joe wouldn't of been getting back up.
after the round with the 'low blow' incident finished, you could hear Joe saying to his dad "he's cheating, he's fucking cheating".
but, Joe showed us what a true champion he is, didn't let it get to him and clearly out boxed Hopkins. if Hopkins watches the replay he'll see that. and, hopefully, shut the fuck up.

Someone pointed out that this was the same chap who refed the last Hatton fight and he wouldn't let Hatton work inside at all but that this time he didn't seem to have a problem with it.

Opinions.

vinny73
04-20-2008, 05:41 PM
there was a big difference in the ref'ing this time. i don't rememeber a single body shot from Hatton because he wasn't allowed anywhere near. in this fight he keep warning them that he wouldn't put up with any rough-house tacktics, went their corners a couple of times to tell them to pack it in. yet Mayweather elbowed the shit out of Hatton all the way through their fight, got away with it everytime.
