I love the ones based on Haeckel's illustrations. Particularly the brittle-star. It shows the beauty, fragility and the resilience of life.

@ squeamous, which one would you have?

That would be fantastic. I would like poison dart-frogs which could flick people in the eyes with their tongues.

I'd like one of those displays, but programmable and accessible with bluetooth or something, so I could change the design around when I wanted or have a moving tattoo.

I actually don't like tattoos. :fear:
The long-term thing scares me because I feel differently about stuff as the years go by. To be stuck with something I might later think that only a cunt would have written on them is worrying.
That electronic thing is genius.
Useful for cheating at exams.

Now I know Benchez will have a field day with this one, but as far as the long term effects go I have seen some alreadywith a Tat I have. A little known fact about Detale is that I have a Tattoo that says "Balls" down the back of my right forearm. When I was young here in Brooklyn it was my nickname "Seanie Balls" Yes my real name is Sean, now it was cool because I was a ( not bragging) kid that alot of people wouldn't fight I even beat up a cop at one point.( I regret most of these things now I am 32). So now when I am walking on the street with my 3 year old in typical Brooklyn fashion people yell my old nick to say hello they go something like Yo Balls! and I look at them and of course sday hi but am a bit embarrassed when Im walking with my kid, So surely some tattoos should be thought out better and people that I don't know or just meet ask what it says on my arm I have to tell them Oh it says Balls and explain the whole thing so I don't look like as moron

You should change your name to balls on here. It would be great. True story.

Na that was a way younger version of myself I was between 17 and 23 when I was at my craziest now things are calm with the kids and all. I barely even drink anymore, no more drugs Shit I don't even smoke pot I work and come home to a good family so I'm much happier this way

My name Detale BTW used to be Elated as some of you may know. I was told to change my name for fear of persecution for being a FST member so I asked that it be changed to Elated backwards hence Detale.

Why do people always get the same tattoos:
Celtic symbol
Maori symbol
Chinese letter

I mean, I know that they are all pretty deep and meaningful etc. but c'mon, the possibilities are endless.

Those are called tramp stamps I think.

From my understanding, it has to be in the small of a Chavess's back to qualify as a tramp stamp.

Real tramps probably get the special brew logo as a tattoo.

The name Sean when spelled thusly is pronounced as in "seen". In order to have it pronounced as in "Shawn, or Shaun" it must have a fada (pronounced fwada I think) above the á, so it would be Seán.

It's a Gaelic thing.

Chálice can probly confirm this, he's all educated and knows things and stuff.

Confirmed to the máx.

The fada acts ostensibly like the French acute accent in that it simply extends the vowel. I would pronounce it as fadda but that varies from Irish county to county and the bastardised Orange battle hymn that is touted as Ulster-Scots.

Detale, why don't you have this one done above your 'balls' tattoo?

It was a wee Nun from somewhere in the south of your fair country who told me. To be fair she was a bout 127 at the time.

The funny thing is that your pronouncement (which I have also heard) actually sounds more southern and mine sounds more Belfastian, to my ears.

In other news' t'arras in Belfast tonight.

We tend to be harsher on the old tongue and more inclined to the english push in the greater cities of the north.

We were taught Gaeilge as a staple in school yet I was acutely/gravely always aware of a degree of pretense or even desperation.

Friends of mine pursued it to A Level, even further. I perceived it as english speaking parents frittering their childrens' educations.

@ squeamous, which one would you have?

I really like the blue trilobite one from the first linky. I've always wanted a tattoo but would never have one done because marking my body seems a bit short-sighted and unnatural. If I did though I'd have something that represented polar bonding between water molecules, DNA or the periodic table. Something that showed the beauty, complexity and elegance of the physical world as we know it. I do love tattoos on other people. I once saw a girl in a club with a giant phoenix emblazened across her chest...it was a sight to behold.

I appreciate the education on my name and thanks Chálice for the conformation but I have spelled it this way for 32 years now and thats how it's spelled on my birth certificate so I will just stick with plain old Sean Also I haven't seen Sean Connery spelled Seán ever, I know he's Scottish but still the name is the same

Yup your right, it's just the pronunciation which you're getting wrong. Unless you actually do call yourself Scene.

Well Iwouldn't say it's wrong it's how we say it here in the USA so I guess it depends where you are in the world, not wrong different:)

Obviously I'm speaking from the perspective of the language where the name comes from. Which I would argue has priority. If you were speaking to someone with a French name it would only be manners to pronounce it as it would be pronounced in France. To do otherwise would be extremely rude, bordering on the offensive.

The only other alternative is to argue that Sean is an entirely different name from Seán, which is fair enough no problems with that. However there is then no justification for pronouncing that spelling as "Shaun", whether you are in Ireland, or the USA.

In short, you cant leave out the fadda and still phonetically behave as if it's there. Even in America.
