Ps2 Mod Downloads, Do They Work?

hello, i keep on downloading these ps2 mods that your supposed to burn on a cd then place in the ps2 followed by the backup. am i doing them right? has anyone found any that work?

i think u need a mod chip.. if u don't have a mod chip. none of the patches will work
