Hi Friends,
I am working on a new update feature for Kazaa Lite. it will have the following features:

1. CRC checking of the old and the new file, to ensure even small resource changes are available.
2. Filesize verification.
3. Ability to pick the updates.
4. Ability to choose from a list of available mirrors.
5. Multi threaded operation.
6. Customisable memory for downloading updates.
7. Description for each component of the download.
8. Ability to see which date the download/update was posted.
9. Ability to mark an update as critical, or not.

In order to implement this, I will need the following:
1. A fast server w/ FTP access, so that I can upload a small text file to it. I cant do it on my server, because it will insert its own ad text into all ascii files.
2. I should be able to upload the core Kazaa files to the server. So atleast 5-8MB of server space.

I would be using this server for testing purposes only. Not much bandwidth would be utilised. Please do not suggest a free server. Most of them are useless. I need someone to give me some space and FTP access on a personal server.

Hasnain.

Use Sorceforge.net.

That would not allow personal projects. Besides, this project is limited to K-Lite, and they have very strict criterias for choosing which project to approve, and which not.

All you need is a hosting with FTP connection right? I know most Free hosts are crap but there are ones that are good. I know one that i use a lot for just image storage. Fast ftp, no additional text to the file.

Well, most hosts won't allow HTTP connections from within applications, and the download will just fail. I need some host that will allow HTTP connections from apps. I tried downloading a file from within my app, from one of Edskes' servers, and it worked. Doesn't work on my own server :(

How would you compare the versions, CGI like Jock Whiteside said? I think PHP would be better than CGI/Perl.

Although it might seem like a stupid idea on my part, why not consult Jon about temporarily using part of the forum's server for a test run?

We've got a new server for the forum, not everyone knows about it, and this would directly benefit K-Lite in general. That, and now is probably the only time I've seen Jon active so this is probably the only chance you'll get :D

Just a thought :)

I could lend you some of my ISP webspace. They give me like 80 MB, I think. I haven't used it yet. I have Earthlink Cable.
