The Babbage Difference Machine No.2. (http://gizmodo.com/386352/video-charles-babbages-difference-machine-no-2-fully-operational)

Unbelievable.
The man was amazing...he conceived this mechanism in his head and never saw it actually built.
Modern experts doubted it would work.

The father of modern computing?

Thank you Clocker!
I was only vaguely aware of who Charles Babbage was but your post piqued my interest.
Long story short I did some reading and found some really fascinating stuff.
The man was a true genius and apparently more than a little eccentric.
And yes probably the father of modern computing.

I came upon Babbage when still involved in clockmaking, the wonderment of the sheer mechanicality of his designs being the main attraction.

Unless you've actually tried it, the difficulty making such a complex mechanism just move is hard to appreciate.
It's a beautiful thing, no doubt about it.

That really did it.

Rossco tried running the board one one. :frusty:

mechanicality!? is this a real word?? Either way Babbage was an amazing mind. like you said to even make a complex machine like this move is difficult enough but to think something like this up is amazing I wish I had half those smarts

It's a word because I wrote it.

So there.
