be honest ,has any of you have donated to pirate bay? if no y not?...

most of the file sharing is done in its true spirit only on the pirate bay, lime wire...others...the rest of the sites its used more like a currency to get into better sites for ratio proofs or trade it or sumthing else

i think pirate bay has done so much to the torrenting community, you cant compare pirate bay with any/many of the sites combined.....it is a lion in a herd of sheep...most of the other sites dont have the balls to stand up for what is right, even if they do get shut down atleast they tried

TPB gets plenty without my contribution..besides I only donate to sites that I use on a regular basis, only use TPB once in a great while.

I did donate once a while ago, sure the speeds mostly suck but the site has almost everything you will need, also they are at the forefront of the BT vs RIAA war so they have some respect from me

I would never donate to public trackers, only to the private ones that I use. Cos private trackers have such great speeds and content I am more than happy to donate.

People donate to TPB? I think they have enough money already.

Yes I donated to them. It is important to contribute to all filesharing whether or not it is your "private tracker".

I do respect them for what they are doing, I mean who knows what the RIAA could have done till now without TPB, but they said they make tens of thousands from ads, and I'm sure theres plenty after spending it on server costs etc.

Just looked around abit, and they make ~$75,000 a month, and that was after the 3 day raid, so most probably much more now, and runs on 24 servers, so theres plenty of leftover :P

In my opinion, donating is an alternative for ads, if the site cannot survive on donations alone, then ads is the best option.

Completely respecting TPB,
but I don't think I would say that tracker shows the "true spirit" of file sharing.
It may show the most common way people trade files,
but when it comes to the people who use TPB.
Hit n runs do not show the true spirit of file sharing.
Nor do mislabeled torrents or viruses you may download.
Nor the fact that thousands of people will download a torrent and there will not be a single "thank you" anywhere to be seen.
I support private trackers not only because of the tracker or the people who run it, but because of all the users.
I'm not saying everyone who uses TPB is bad, there are people who share their files just to share them - not to get upload credit, not to get thanked, and they risk being targeted by anti-piracy groups and there are people who seed long after a 1.0 ratio but these people get taken advantage of, and I don't support that.

Sure I like TPB, I completely respect those who run it, they've done something amazing for the file-sharing world, but I would rather invest my money somewhere else that needs it. (In reference to TidusBlade's post.)

I would definitely donate to TPB... if I had the cash.

Luckily that cash is coming real soon thanks to this new job. :p

The "true spirit" of filesharing? Well thats very debatabble but I can say this they are not some uber elitist bunch of pricks like some Private sites can be it is fee to all and that IMO IS the spirit of File sharing. You are right about the behavior of the people, but Those are the people there and not all of them, I also think they should implement a ratio system there to "clean up" their site a bit, but overall I think the Idea that all is free to everyone should be something to examine

I also only donate to sites I use very regularly...plus I think that the pirate bay is a little to crazy for my tastes...i'de rather keep things on the DL, but all they want to do is run onto the battlefield! Good luck to them, I respect what they stand for, just not always how they go about achieving things
