Hello all.

I just put Peer Guardian back on my PC (after a re-format) and I've noticed I'm getting a lot of IP hits from the MPAA, the RIAA, the FBI and Universal Pictures. Even when I'm not using Kazaa! Is this a normal procedure for them to test everyone or have I attracted unwanted attention from them? The reason I worry is that I downloaded Peer Guardian but I didn't install it straight away, then I forgot about it for a few days (I've had a couple of things on my mind lately), So I'm thinking that in those few days I could have been rumbled. The thing is though I don't really download a lot of movie files or music and I never had this problem before (using Peer Guardian) so am I just one of the unlucky people?

Cheers.

I'm I getting paranoid?

Good god! I've just read the title that I typed. That'll teach me not to talk to my family and type at the same time! It's supposed to be Am I getting Paranoid?

I've noticed that it varies, the amount of hits in PG.
Sometimes more, sometimes less.
But its blocking something, and thus making Riaa etc's life a bit more difficult.

Try actually doing a "whois" or traceroute on those blocked IP's. Most likely they have nothing to do with any of the agencies listed.

I don't use peerguardian. Can you tell? Maybe if it had a legitimate database of bad IP's verified frequently....

This site will allow you to download an "IP Blocklist"

This will block alot of this. I get this also.

or maybe there are plenty of valid anti p2p ranges in the peerguardian db- at least in the last couple of months coz i submitted a lot of them and the universal studios ones are legit- i just had one universal movie to share for an extended period of time (to test the ranges with pg) and got the following hits- i wan't doing anything but sharing that one movie- no dl and no web browsing

Rejected: 67.122.205.136 - Universal Studios SBC067118065168020523 (09-03-2003 @ 00:08:32)

true there are bogus ranges in the db but the peerguardian forum effort is making some headway in turning around the list-frankly i'm tired of ppl either saying outright or implying the list isn't worth using so if anyone asks questions post these links instead of outdated opinions

thanks,
