It seems like a Dutch organisation called Stichting Brein (http://www.anti-piracy.nl/) is planning to target sharers of popular and/or large amounts of music/movies this fall.

More info @: tweakers.net (http://achelois.tweakers.net/nieuws/28262) & nu.nl (http://nu.nl/news.jsp?n=188732&c=54)

BS or not, still worth noting...

I wouldn't worry to much. BREIN is just a small organisation and doesn't have much power.

They just want to use the same Scare Tastics as the RIAA has done lately.

They used to target the large FTP servers on campusses.
Now they're shifting to Kazaa.

Doesn't matter though, they don't have any legal rights except for requesting a Cease&Desist.

yeah I saw that post after I wrote mine, but then decided that mine had more info, and was thus the more usefull post :P

============================================

About the original topic: I've talked to a law student (and fellow filesharer) at a Dutch University, who confirmed my fears that it is not as implausible as it sounds. Basically, 1 law stands between Brein and us, the users, and that law only has to be approved by the prime-minister, not even parliament. This may happen in months, if not weeks! Whatever way it goes, it is a good a idea to keep an eye out on whether that law (http://www.cbpweb.nl/documenten/adv_z2000-0478.htm) gets approved or not, and take appropriate precautions.

Sorry if this causes a queezy feeling in anyone's stomach (it certainly did to me), but information is better than ignorance. On a personal note, I aggree with Paul, that it is not to serious a matter, and will certainly not be conducted on a grand scale. People should just beware of showing their shared folders, beware of sharing stuff, as advertised on slyck.com (http://www.slyck.com/news.php?story=215), and generally not share too much. They specifically said that they were going after sharers, not downloaders.

Oh and incidentally, on Nederland 1, the kazaa they used as an example was K++ :lol:
