The best deal I've come across so far is a Gateway P-6831FX (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;jsessionid=2BKAMRJLAGJKZKC4D3FVAFY?skuId=8651167&st=P-6831FX&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1195599780039), for $1,199.99 at Bestbuy. This price is doable for me...maybe.

In various place around the web it can be found used for below $1000... but that's used and I'm really drawn back from that because it's kind of potluck.

Anyways,
I was just wondering if anyone else had been doing any looking around and found any better deal out there. $1000 is my budget, it's fairly firm. If I'm going over that amount I'd probably just order the gateway.

The processor's underpowered and I wouldn't recommend a Gateway.
If you can live with 15.4" this system's great

agreed!!

until i saw your link i always thought that people were SOL when it came to buying a good laptop without spending a fortune. i didnt know that there were sites that catered to users with above average needs for the same amount of money you would spend at somewhere gay like best buy. thanks for the advice.

I spent a lot of time at one point browsing for the best laptop so I remembered a few places with really nice stuff and terrific reputations.
Xoticpc is right at the top of that list.Just be careful if you don't live in the US because the warranty(which is excellent)may not apply and the duty may be a lot.
Anyone interested in buying a new laptop should definitely check out this sitehttp://www.notebookreview.com/ (http://www.notebookreview.com/)it's very informative.
