How does this thing work? Does it work like this? I got an 80gb hard drive and i want to split it for stuff 20gb is for kazaa, 55gb would be for games and apps and the 5 gig's will be for operating system junk/drivers so would it be like

For example if u looked in my computer it would say

A:\ floppy drive
C:\ operating system junk/drivers
D:\ cd drive
F:\ games and apps
G:\ kazaa

is that what they mean by 3 partitions?

Depending on the volume type of your disk.........spanned, stripped, basic, etc. Basic disk or dynamic disk.

Most people use a basic disk and you can only create so many partitions on a basic disk.
Basic disk can contain primary partitions, extended partitions and logical drives and there is a limit to how many of those you can create

If you want to do it like you just posted above then would work, just use partition majic or the logical disk manager utility in xp or windows. :)

Yes, that is the main reason I have partitions.

Exactly

You can format the C drive and reinstall windows etc without losing the other stuff.

However if you install programs elsewhere the registry entries will be lost if you format c.

I use C for windows and programmes and split the rest for storage / working. I like a big working partition which I can use for encoding, downloading, stuff to be burned etc.
