I think that they're going to completely shut down services on June 23rd, but I can't find the link to post here for you guys yet.

Bastards!

The only place it shows up is on the RR help site. This is what it says:

I cannot access Road Runner Newsgroups or download articles?
As of June 23, 2008, Road Runner will no longer offer Newsgroups, however users can subscribe on their own to third party News providers.

Why is Road Runner discontinuing their own Newsgroups service?
Due to low subscriber usage Road Runner has decided to discontinue Newsgroups service as of June 23, 2008.

If I still want a news service, what can I do?
Subscribers can choose to use a third party service and purchase on their own through that service. There are many providers with offerings, as an example here are several providers:

* Easynews
* Newshosting
* UsenetServer

When is the last day that Road Runner Newsgroups service will be available?
Newsgroups service will cease on June 23, 2008. And yes.. BASTARDS! The cheap mfers are just saving the money for the access and bandwidth instead of removing the 88 offending groups. Which isn't even their responsibility really, it's Newshosting (who RR use for ng access) that should have removed those groups a long time ago.

I'm all for censoring child porn but TWC are just using this as an excuse to save $$$.

Yes that's true, but you can also see how Newsgroups die out :(

I mean today it still gets used by savvy filesharers, but it lost the meaning it once had.

Obviously. You can't be upset with a business for cutting costs.

It's faster than anyone else down here and I have a 9mb/1mb line. I've been using them for around 7 years and have never had a single moment of downtime. They're a bit pricey but not unreasonable.

I have no complaints honestly. :idunno:

What don't you like?

"http://netservices.verizon.net/msa/images/spacer.gifImportant Changes in Verizon Newsgroup Service

On 06/24/2008, Verizon will be modifying its Newsgroup offerings
to only offer groups in the Big-8 Newsgroup hierarchies, which are
listed below. Users will not be able to post or download from any
other newsgroups.

comp.*
humanities.*
misc.*
news.*
rec.*
sci.*
soc.*
talk.*

More information on the Big 8 hierarchies is available at www.big-8.org (http://www.big-8.org).

The 0.verizon.* newsgroup hierarchy will also continue to be available.

In preparation for this change, you will need to modify your
news client(s) and unsubscribe from all newsgroups other
than the newsgroups listed above. Failure to do so may
interfere with the functioning of the Verizon network or use
of the network by other Verizon users which is a violation of
our Acceptable Use Policy."

Are you dead set against paying a small monthly fee for something you enjoy?

Those of you who are disappointed in TWC/RR should let them know. The voices of the masses are a powerful thing.

I have a feeling that will only fall on deaf ears. I heard its that bastard attorney general from my own city that's putting the squeeze on these ISP's.

I just learned this myself yesterday. It depressed me for a good 10 minutes.

I hear ya. He's my attorney general too.

What it means is a lot more people doing what I've done for years, and that's pay for separate newsgroup access. Couldn't live without it.

They only changed servers on my end :unsure: I just made the switch and everything's back.

Oh it's because I have Bright House...:happy: Haha, suck on that cawkmongs!

It was kinda weird since I tried to d/l something all it did was show 526 *.gifs files with a message to visit some site for a new host.

Bright House ain't my ISP

I've never heard of em till today. Nor their connection to Time Warner RR.

Though it seems as long as you have RR, you can access NGs through them.
