Canadian Licensing Company Wi-Lan Inc. on Friday said it has filed new litigations against Motorola Inc., Research In Motion (RIM) and UTStarcom Inc, for infringing the company’s intellectual property.
The company said it has initiated lawsuits in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division, alleging that the companies’ mobile devices and other equipment infringe Wi-Lan patents.
The firm however, hasn’t disclosed the specifications of the damages or remedies it will seek under the lawsuit.
Currently, Wi-Lan has more than 300 issued or pending patents in a range of electronics and communications products, it said.

These patent lawsuits are getting out of control the government needs to reform the patent system. I personally feel if a patent has not been utilized in 10 years the patent holder should lose their right to it.
