BrokenStones is a mac-dedicated tracker. And quite frankly, it is a mac user's heaven.

Information

On 6/27/2008 around 8 AM GMT BrokenStones' server was suspended by the host. The server has been quarantined so BrokenStones will not be returning

TorrentFreak has more information: Malaysian Government Orders Torrent Sites Shutdown

I would like to thank all the members and staff for building an awesome Mac community. It has been a blast and I will not forget it so I hope you will not either.

RiP BrokenStones, you will be missed

Hopefully members like myself can find a new home soon that specializes in Mac.

They may be shutdown in malasia, but of course they have a backup and will move to new country.

That's why we must remember to back shit up. Even if they had backed up once a month the site would be returning. :frusty:

Funny that they would just close the site it's unless like acumen postulated they lost all their data and didn't think it was worth the effort to start from scratch.
I agree with everyone though it's a terrific lose, there really is nothing comparable out there.

Of course it's backed up ffs, what sort of site admin wouldn't keep a backup?

I'm getting the feeling that this event has spooked the site's owner(s), and a concsious decision has been made to abandon the project.

FTN on the other hand don't appear to be having any of it :01:

Anyone that says something that foolish doesn't know the first thing about BrokenStones.
As a Mac tracker it was in a class by itself and it's closing is a very great loss to the torrent community.

Mac community, Long Live BS!

with this link: http://www.atkkierratys.com/stonesonexodus/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=13

"Let's get to work!

I got really sad when I saw the frontpage of BS today, but since I am a optimistic guy, I figured that this should be regarded as a natural way of evolution and not the end of it all. It was a tough blow, but we will rebuild with style.

As I said, this is not the end - it is just the beginning of a new chapter. While everyone here obviously loved BrokenStones for its content and community, it was certainly not perfect. This is the perfect chance for us to create something even better than BrokenStones was.

The tracker we will build will probably be much better optimized and will be able to handle many more users (because of Gazelle). More users equal more content and a wider community. We can give it the true Apple look and feeling that everyone in the Mac-community loves to love.

So, let's get to work! This is the next step in the history of the mac trackers. If we work together, we can certainly make something amazing."

MAYBE WE CAN HELP..

Errr I hate these anti-pirate people trying to shut us off. Why can't they realize that torrents will never cease to exist until something technologically better than torrents is invented. Shutdowns like these are quite sad indeed, but I like to think they make the community even stronger. These fools will realize that they can't erase torrents, or us. If one site goes down, then another must and will take its place.

With the penalties that can be enforced on the siteowners/admins I can understand why a project is abandoned when the server is seized, even with database encryption there is still all the log details that can be extracted. It is sad that another great tracker has been forced into this position and brokenstones was by far the best dedicated tracker for Mac, but everyone here must recognise that for siteowners/admin there is a huge risk in running these sites, so if their decision is to abandon the project then all we can really do is thank them for the effort and hope that enough dedicated users band together to build another resource for the Mac community.
