now that brokenstones is gone, we should collect some alternative mac torrent sites.

please include a small description/stats.

This is definitely a good idea PolarBear.

None of the below sites are dedicated to Mac, but instead have a Mac section:
Demonoid
What.cd
Waffles
RevolutionTT
TorrentLeech

i always used demonoid for mac stuff, and yea i think it was better than brokenstones

please try not to post sites that are already mentioned. this thread is supposed to give an overview of mac ressources. it's not about which you like most.

I found this so far. I think broken stones filled a pretty large gap, but all the same I was surprised to find this great site. The forum is open for signup but access to the tracker requires an invite (and donation) more info at link below.

audionews (audio apps) & gfxnews (graphics apps) have a good mac only browse section.

In all honesty, I noticed that whatcd was upping a crapload more mac specific torrents than brokenstones anyway, especially over the last month or so. An example was the alarm clock pro 8.4.4 app upped on what when 10 hours earlier, 8.4.3 was just upped on brokenstones. There were heaps like this. Brokenstones was getting more music and movies recently than apps. So in my opinion it WAS; brokenstones and whatcd, followed by waffles. Now, whatcd is the one, just like oink used to be for mac apps.

There are no more mac dedicated sites (as you know). There are a couple good forums though.

Aside from what has been mentioned i'd like to add PAT ProAudio as another decent source for mac audio stuff.
Cheers

i'm not a big gamer, but i think it'll be most difficult to find a good substitute for mac games.

We have a mac cat on the tracker, but its pretty much dead in the water.

29 mac games on the tracker, and 9 requests.

I would love to get more stuff on for Mac, but as i have never even used a Mac before in my life, i cant do it personally.

PS: twice i have had to type this, silly server busy message grrr

http://bs.kicks-ass.net/ - a new MAC forum that seems to have a lot of old BrokenStones members.

www.mac-bb.org/index.php - Appears to be a large MAC RapidShare forum.

Wish I could get into contact with the BS staff, I'd love to help revive it :ermm:

I feel a bit lost without it.

they have mentioned that they are not interested in reviving it.

Most likely due to the fact that it would take a lot of time and effort to do so. Time and effort I'd be willing to put out ;)

I'd also imagine they lost their entire DB, which I wouldn't mind rebuilding.

well you can always go to their irc and talk to the ops there. Theres still a couple of mods that idle there, Edwin for example. Also when you are talking about rebuilding BS, you would have to do so in a totally different way compared to what you have done with FTN.

I'd keep things just as they were :P BS was  I wouldn't change a thing about it if I were able to re-do it.

Basically I'd just want to rebuild it since I'm sure they lost all their code and such. Old staff would be able to run it if they wanted.

Thanks Brandon.

Heres a good mac-oriented tracker vortexnetwork.org

Maximum Users: 22,000
Registered Users: 10,116
Active Users: 300
Torrents: 1,489
Snatches: 40,241
Peers: 23,846
Seeders: 21,347
Leechers: 2,499
Seeder/Leecher Ratio: 8.54

According to the rules cant offer public invites tho ... x(
Thus, as we seem to be a closed ))) community, send me some screenshots with ur speedtest, and ratios on good trackers and you might get a present ;)

p.s. This rule does not apply to everybody, i will invite only ppl who i think deserve it ;P

:D what?

this rule seems to be new or i must have read over it.

excuse me, but this is a little ridiculous, isn't it?

edit: i mean if they don't want their site name to be mentioned in public, that's ok. vn may have done the job. "eye of the storm" sounds a little dramatic. at least to me.

To protect the community we respectfully ask that all users refer to the site as "The Eye of The Storm" when referring to it in any medium that is not between two users of the site. however you are permitted to mention the sites true name on other private sites. The general rule of thumb is ask before mentioning the site if you're unsure.

Well, this rule is a little wierd... if the site is young enough, at least in the beginning it needs a little promotion imho ...

As well, the invites thing ... if a user can prove he s a trustworthy with the screenshots of his speed and ratios on good trackers, why not offer him an invite ;P

Polarbear
07-17-2008, 09:56 PM
well, they certainly don't need any promotion. i've never seen a torrent site grow so fast. there wasn't any big hype like for what and waffles after the oink shutdown. two weeks ago nobody knew about the site and now they have 10.500 members without open signups. allright, what did a little promotion for them and helped out a lot, but there were no endless threads here or on other public sites.

for a niche tracker that addresses a 3% minority in the filesharing scene named mac users, they had an amazing start.

I'm sorry...my apologies...I was not aware of this rule, and did not see it when I first scoured the information section of this board. My intention on my first day here was not to break any of your rules. I am just eager to find some Mac-dedicated forums and torrent sites. Thanks for your patience with this n00b. :whistling

Demonoid is pretty good on mac content, also some stuff on TL and RevTT ... lots o' stuff on Torrents.ru(in russian tho) and mac-torrents.com (reg open) ;)
For STC goto irc.savethecoratee.org #invites #help, pass a little interview, and u're in .. BS is back, and it rocks, hard to get there .. VN, was ok, but after the "big plans" thing, i kinda wouldnt recommend you going there :P
I wish u luck m8 :)

I'm finding 'eye of the storm' > stc at the moment. And bs is certainly trailing. No bias here, I'm a PU at all three (or at least their respective power user name sake). I've done numerous checks on snatches of the same named torrents and even apps upped every day and still the storm comes out on top with more snatches and more seeders. I actually think it's possible that the whole controversy at the storm a few weeks ago may have been missed by 95% of their community due to not really being active in the forums so are not planting their loyalty anywhere; more a 50 50 split.
