The file-hosting service now lets you download without traffic-limit.
There are some seconds before a download starts, but no additional waiting times after a file completed.

The downside, speed is capped for free users.
It varies from 0.2 to 2 Megabits, depending on load (~ 25 - 250 kb/s).

Do you like this new model?

Do you like this new model?

No. I bet they're using it to encourage people to buy VIP.

No but you have to look at it from there point of view rapidshare is out to make money so I think it fair enough but I would like to download at full speed but what can we expect for free

pay the 11 bucks and get an account. don't be cheap and settle with 60KB/s.

ops I voted for the wrong one by accident :P

i think it's a bad idea, 60 KB/s sucks

I think it sucks badly but I do see their reasoning for it. But now their capping the speeds to 1 download per hour or 23 kb/s.

I recommend you to use tools so you can constantly download at 60 kb/s without watching yourself if a file finished.
If you do so, it's more than two times faster now compared to the old limitation, where you had to wait.

Of course, if you are usually downloading 1 part albums or the like, the cap is bad because the former model wouldn't limit you then.
Same goes for those that were able to circumvent the extra waiting time without hassle.

Here's a short summary:
Long time run:
fullspeed ... wait .... wait ... wait ... wait ... wait == 100 MB (1,7 hours) [very bad]
60kb 60kb 60kb 60kb 60kb 60kb 60kb == ~350 MB (1,7 hours) [better]

Album:
fs!, done. [very good]
60kb 60kb 60kb, done. [bad]

Reconnect:
fs!- fs!- fs!- fs!- fs!- fs!- fs! == 700 MB [ultra]
60kb/s 60kb/s 60kb/s == 50 MB? [bad]

note: reconnecters were profiting from premium customers

Good news, I don't have to reset my modem anymore. 60kb is about the fastest my line can take, so am happy.

Wish you could choose between limited downloads and fast speed or the unlimited slow speed

Yeah, I like it. I only download magazines and ebooks with Rapidshare so it's really an improvement.

I doesn't bother me I actually like that they did that. I no longer have to wait 90 minutes between downloads that only take me like 15 minutes with this new speed cap.

rapidshare is so greedy
at least they give something away for free, usenet providers usually don't give anything for free
but I also think they should higher the speed in the time where their lines aren't full

u do know that the javascript bypass at least on firefox 2.x still works.

however once u get to push the download image it will give out an error - either try pressing reload/f5 or if those don't work putting the cursor at the end of the url in the addy bar, pressing enter and now ur download should still start.. ;)

It doesn´t affect me because I download everything for BitTorrent. This way they were forcing the people to contract premium accounts...
