Ok a lot of time Ive not opened a thread here...
And as I havent seen anywhere this quest.
What do u look for in a tracker?
Pre times
Speed
Content
Community
or anyother weird thing? :whistling

By the way for me all it matters is 1. Content 2. Speeds

Staff and members combined to = Community who have some similar tastes to what I am looking for and can relate and react to their user membership.

Content = to quality user uploads, they are much more interesting than scene.

Uniqueness or quirkiness can help :)

Organization is a big deal for me.

It doesn't matter if you have the best content on a tracker if it is too hard to find it. Good Search and Browse functionality, clean look, and useful categories can really help a tracker stand out. Some good sites in this category are x264 and What?.

Community is also important ( I know, right?)

I don't mean stupid forum games, though. I'm talking about having a user base that leaves useful comments on torrents, fills requests, and helps each other out. Good sites in this category are BCG and Cinemageddon.

And of course Content and Quality Control matter too. Speed and Pre-times are not so valuable to me. I guess I am patient.

content. most of the trackers i'm interested in focus on one specific type of content.

the second is self sustainability. there should be enough active users to be able to seed to 1.0 or above in a reasonable amount of time.

speeds would be third.

I look for friendly staff who don't have some sort of god-complex :P I like to be in a community where I can relate to the other members and just plain old have fun with them. I look for a tracker that isn't incredibly hard to seed on. I don't particularly care about pre-times; I don't care how many extra seconds/minutes/hours/days/weeks/months/years one tracker gets something compared to another. I like packs and user uploads too; you never know what other users may think of, and what you'll find from other members.

Staff+users

How convenient it is to browse the site ( torrents, forums, etc... ), how clean the site looks.

Very variable in my case.
The first thing is that I feel comfortable... Sometimes I canīt say why I feel well or bad in one site, but I think I get this feeling from different sources: staff mainly... design, security, content, possibility of meeting all the site requirements, the community thing, etc, etc. Then, of those I have one tracker for each thing... In one I am very participative in forums, in other I download TV series, in other DVDr, in other rare stuff, etc.
But a requirement sine qua non is that I feel good, no stressed, no scared, no nothing but just happy.

I don't think one tracker can really supply all one users needs let alone have the community spirit that every one is looking for, we are all different and have different needs from a tracker.
But main things I would like are
Content/quality
Community
Speed both on the torrent and if scene release the pre

Good content and welcoming atmosphere are most important.
I also like a place where at least some of the people share my interests.
Good design is a plus.Speed doesn't matter as long as it's not glacial.

Uploaders with 100/100 connections.
Active DVD section. Fresh house/trance beats.
Nice design. Pretty avatars.
A nice hard edge to the humor in the forums. A good XXX forum section.

the users and staff are the most important, beyond that i like places that help out the common users with slow upload so we have a chance to be active in the community as well as the torrents.

Lately I've been more active in trackers that have lively, funny IRC rooms. Forums are great, yeah, but they're seeming a little slow lately. I'd rather have a real-time chat on IRC :)

Unique Content+Community+Users can up makes for the best trackers. Those three go hand in hand.

For music:
non-0day
Music of all kinds
activity on all torrents-->speed

For movies:
My requirements are the same for music trackers.

For normal standard 0-day tracker:
Fast releases that's all
Those trackers are always fast and active enough.

Staff.

If staffs are pricks, most people on FLS will be the same, people idling in IRC, posting on the forum will be same as well.

On the other hand, if staffs are friendly then their FLS pick will likely be friend, people idling on IRC, and those posting on forum will try to do the same.

Also, if staffs are mature and capable of running a site they likely will get uploaders, faster pre, good content, and all that jaaz.

edit: content wise i prefer sites like Cinemageddon, XTW, TheHorrorCharnel, AOM, ThePlace etc. The userbase on such site is unique....i see more new faces on one of those sites then i do on 10 scene trackers.

Like someone already mentioned, torrent comments on those sites are constructive. Unlike scene tracker, the snatcher on those site seem more passionate about the upload.

In a tracker, the first thing I look for is a nice staff and a great community. Without these, it's usually ditch that tracker. I also want most of my friends to be there as well, so I at least know some people there. But mostly, I look for a welcome and close community.

Strictly for torrenting, speeds and pretimes are very important to me, hence the reason I like ScT that much, although they really don't that much of a community...

Community, variety, quality seeded torrents(quantity and duration of seeders), leechers, RARs banned, cool user class promotion or some challenge/game (this also builds community), design, and never setting for 'good enough' when tracker improvements can always be made. The sites that say "Fuck the Status Quo" are usually my favorite.

edit: I'm also a big fan of niche trackers.
