View Full Version : Don't Move The Damn Threads!

Moving threads should only be done in critical situations.

The God(Atheist) thread is a good example.

Sure, even in the World News and Events section we degenerate into light-heartedness and levity, but it is usually self limited. In here it has the best chance of recovery and not becoming the typical Jonno, Ron, Proper Bo exchange which inevitably leads to cheez, masturbation or naked pictures of NikkiD. (No offense, just an observation).

Although this thread (God/atheist) has made it back, it is filled with crap and the discussion progresses like a whirlpool. Sure we spout a lot of crap here, but at least most contributors actually read the thread, not just the last post or in some cases, just the title. This allows progression, evolution.

I am a minimalist in regards to intervention. Only move threads to save a life. Newbs will always be posting incorrectly, this is a fixed event. Don't spoonfeed them by moving their posts. If a thread is in the wrong place, so what? I will still be able to sleep at night. Why worry yourselves over this trivial task of tidyness, especially in the forums where post counts aren't an issue.

/steps down off soapbox, goes to eat cheez.

Hobbes-

You were right the first time. ;)

Now, let's just give it to the hi-jackers; they've seen fit to add some levity to your thread.

You know, I think this thread needs moved ;)

Seriously, though, if a thread is in the wrong section then it is moved. That is the policy here.
If you have a problem with a specific thread, feel free to PM a moderator.

Big picture-wise, moving the threads accomplishes nothing, and in some instances is harmful, as described above. Waste your time as you wish, but I find micro-management irksome.

I've had my say. Ok, what's next?

Since I have been such a problem child here, I'm glad you mods have taken it upon yourselves to piss me off.

Why don't you worry about the function of the forum and it's stability, rather than aggravate decent contributors?

With regard to the God thread. It's like a yo-yo in and out of world / lounge. So I use it as an example.

I can understand why mods would move things for purely relevance. e.g. If I were to post, "What's your favourite Jim Reeves Song" in the Hardware section then they may feel that it should be in Software world.

However movement between the World News and Lounge sections is purely a subjective judgment, based on the Mod's own opinion.

So if a Mod decides that the last few posts were not worthy of serious discussion, then they move it to the Lounge. Conversely if they feel that the posts have become of sufficient worth they then move it back.

That really isn't moderation, that is judgementalism and frankly it borders on the arrogant to feel that your opinion of what is worthwhile is more valuable than anyone else's.

If you want me to leave, just say so.

Otherwise stop being an ass and leave threads in their original spot.

Do you think I don't know where to post?

I get the picture of powertripping teenagers. So go fuck yourselves.

balaam, RPerry or Paul.

The only ones online just now methinks.

Top mod of the day award - but you have to show your face to get it.

No JPaul,

I'm dead serious here. You know my history of levity and irony, but this is actually angering me.

Makes me wonder if those complaining of personal attacks by mods actually have a point.

I never expected such treatment, given my history.

Powertripping children, I would say.

Nigel, I have a great sense of humor. I have made a point that I am being up front here. So they move the thread twice, despite this.

Move the thread back to where I posted, then all is well. ok.

I do get angry, but I never hold a grudge.

Maybe I was a bit harsh, but spot me this one. :)

I agree hobbes - you are a decent spud and a good poster.

I for one will happily spot you at least this one. If not many more.

However it really isn't that important is it. Just a bit of fun.

So it's down to balaam or Paul. Come on step forward and collect the award old bean.

As requested, I have moved this back (although it is a post about the Forum).

However, to Hobbes I can only say:

We don't tell you how to propogate your opinions and engage in intelligent debate in World news.
So don't tell us how to do our job.

Seeing as I'm the only teenager on the team, I'm assuming that the "powertripping teenager" comment is a direct personal attack. I'd like to make the point that I have not, before now, moved this thread at all. My statement on the first page was a joke (implied by the wink smilie).

I have no idea who did it.

J'Pol

It came from the Lounge - to the About our Website - to World News.

This may be illlustrating the chaps point.

Or was this deliberate ?

PS - used a ? just for you.

Maybe JPaul could do us the favour and create a trully moveable thread.
One that is so obscure that no-way could we come to a consensus on where it should be.

Threadball anyone?

Mods need to have fun too :D

The post was originally in "World....", just for the record.

It was placed there specifically although the topic may not be exactly worldly.
