View Full Version : Using Proxies With Kazaa (kl++)

RealitY
08-19-2003, 02:27 AM
If you are worried about someone extracting your IP while using KaZaa (KL++).
If you are using other less populated p2p's due to security.
If you have stopped sharing because you are spOOked.

Then perhaps you should use the built in Proxy feature of KaZaa (KL++)...

First go to "Options", then "Kazaa Lite K++ Options",
Then click the tab "Firewall" in there...
Check "Use SOCKS5 Proxy Server".

Enter the IP of the Proxy in the "Host" field, this is the number before the ":" in the list below.
Then enter the port in the "Port" field, this is the number followed the ":" in the list below.

Now click "Apply" and then "Ok". If you show connected in the bottom right corner within a few seconds then all is well, if not try adifferent proxy in the list. I make no gaurantees regarding these proxies whatsoever. I have avoided any US proxies for obvious reasons. If you wish please do an IP check first if you want with someone such as Arin (http://www.arin.net/) or GeoBytes (http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm). If you find a proxy does not work or is slow or is of questionable origin then please post here.

Only use these if you intend to Step Up Your Sharing please.
You must check these proxies from time to time as they may stop working.
Some proxies may decrease your speeds, and some are slower than others.
Applications like KazaaSuperNodes or KaNAT may no longer work while using these.

Also, Special Thanks to Mr. Blunt.
Any Questions Or Comments Are Welcome As Well.
Here is the List which I will try to update from time to time...

Socks5 proxies have to be the most unreliable thing ever invented...besides, most of them are set up for hackers to use for about a day, then they dissapear. Great in theory, but it never works, and when it does, you usually get about 20 kB's tops, on any connection.

This is for the "Paranoid" at large...
Mostly those in the US that are worried.

As for speeds, I've gotten as high as 75KB/s.
Although the average is about 20KB/s it seems.

The SOCKS5 protocol is crap; it's outdated and it's very vulnerable to spam, for usage of HTTP Proxies with KaZaA++ use a program called Socks2HTTP (http://www.totalrc.net/s2h/index.jsp). Unfortunately, it's not freeware, I'm still trying to find a hash for it. :(

They work. Earthstation Five has been using this system for months (well they use more security). Sure some proxies wont last long, but thats better than no proxy.

I have a couple of questions about using a proxy with Kazza Lite.

1. Is there a difference between a plain proxy and an anonymous one?

2. Can using a proxy completely protect you from the RIAA or anyone else getting your Ip on Kazza?

3. Is there any way that the RIAA can tell if your using a proxy, and using it could it draw more attention to you?

And last question, should I change proxies everyday?

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for any help.

asmithz
09-13-2003, 03:54 AM
I can answer the 2nd and last question. Yes this protects you from the RIAA from seeing your IP. No you dont have to change your proxy each day, only if the proxy goes down.

I'm glad it will protect me. Thanks for your help. :D

Also i think difference between a plain proxy and an anonymous is that the anoymous proxy dosent list there location.

And i dont think using a proxy will draw more attantion at all.

Shadow Hacker, would you happen to know of any websites with fast proxies? If that's possible.

1. Haven't heard the term plain used before...
If your refering to web surfing, Transparent proxies can still reveal your IP, wheras Anonymous do not.
2. Generally yes, unless the proxy is being monitoredby its owner, such as a honeybot. This is why I always say never to use US proxies, if really paranoid I guess you could stay away from UK and AU proxies as well. The likeyhood of foreign proxy monitoring copyright infringement is most likely non exsistent, and the AA getting a subenoa to view their logs, if there are any, is even less likely.
3. They may be able to know the IP is a proxy, but so what. No.
4. As SH mentioned, only when they go down generally.
5. You'll have to just try differnt ones. As I said above proxies must be maintained and the speeds may not be as good as without, its here for the paranoid users in the US generally.

There's no site that has good ones for kazaa, becuase kazaa dosent support most of them. So it just a matter of fining ones that work. REALITY will post more as he finds him so the best you can do it try them all. That he post and see witch is faster.

I use this program to search for good proxys. Proxyrama (http://gaamoa.deny.de/)

I find it is very good and fast.

The question is can Kazaa utilize this program when you "Chain" 5 or 6 anonymous proxys? I know you can when you use it with IE, but I haven't gotten Kazaa to work.

The Kazaa Capture thing is not FREE but I did try the free trial for 30 days. It did not nork. Told it to capture my kppl.exe file and still I was using the same ole non captured ports. However I am using one of the proxies that reality posted but I am getting a very slow 1-2Kb/s. I can share but people will be getting very slow connections. BTW is there an easier prog then socs to http or are we stuck with socs proxies for KL? Hopefully Reality will keep us up to date with the latest socs proxies so we can still use Kazaa-Lite and share files.

Oh BTW when I used the browser when connected to one of the socs proxies it still gave my ip address when I went to www.myipis.com. Does this not cover the browser in Kazaa-Lite?

No, it does not cover any regular web surfing.

I found this list quite a while back so i am not sure how many are still working, but feel free to take a look at this site for proxies.

:D I have just looked at it again and it seems that they are well maintained.....Ummm, i was going to post the site name on here but if there are any trolls about i dont want them seeing this site.

If you want the name message me.

But then of course how do i know you are not a troll........geeez this is confusing.

This is a good site, i expect to be given an honoury status for finding this. B)

I pmed the dude and got the site and its GOOD. However I do wish I could easily use a SOCS to HTTP proxy app that is either cracked or whatever. I tried that datecracker and it did not work on Proxycap and not only that but I can't figure it out. Thus I am forced to use only SOCS proxies on KL. I have a ton of music files to share along with Movies. I am sharing Movies and warez but not music at the moment as this is where the people are getting sued. But when there is a easy way for my to hide my IP then I'll start sharing.

Hello.

I checked the CN proxy 218.88.238.172 with Geobytes and got this message: "We are currently unable to locate the address 218.88.238.172 at this time."

What does that mean? Is the proxy a "phantom address", perhaps?

I tried using Proxyrama i like how it tests the proxys for diffrent protacols like SSL but when i ran it all the internet programs just bypass it.
I cant even get the tester to work now says port 80 is in use but nothing else is using it.
If anybody knows a good program like proxyrama please tell me.

I also tried using proxycap, at first i couldnt get it to work but then i relised you need SSL proxy i got it to work with some ssl proxys but not others, but it only worked with browsing and i couldnt use it with kazaa or shareaza.

I currently have a site hosted by angelfire that has a whole bunch of info on this crap, including a forum. Please sign up and help support the ANTI-RIAA cause.

The port to be entered for the proxy is the last 4 digits as explained in my original post...

Enter the IP of the Proxy in the "Host" field, this is the number before the ":" in the list below.
Then enter the port in the "Port" field, this is the number followed the ":" in the list below.

I believe this one works on IE5.5 but you can try this one http://proxify.com, pretty good http proxy, and if you might wanna use search engine for a proxy program called the Stealther, this one is shareware but if you want, it can be turned into freeware ;)

-btw, just go ahead and visit http://support.microsoft.com and d/l IE6, there's no charge for it

Posting these images and avatars that displays everyone & their grandma's IP, DNS, host name, etc. must be the new IN thing to do....as if we don't have enough paranoid & overprotective people on here worried about whether or not they're about to get dressed in a phat lawsuit. :rtfaq:

What do you all think of satellite proxy servers? Download fast, upload slow, variable IP. More secure?

@junkyardking - be careful using 62.3.1.11:45576 Saudi Arabia. It's not where it seems it is. Any PROXY within this range (62.[0-30) belongs to UK-CABLEINET-20000211 Cable Internet Ltd. Try VisualRoute 7.2a Pro. U will notice in most cases, that trace will jump to the capital of ur country then UK-CABLEINET-20000211 Cable Internet Ltd then Saudi Arabia. look for my last post, prior to this, in this topic for the reason.

Yeah I'm spooked alright a rumour has it that people in the Uk will be targetted for wrist slappage! So I tried the proxy server thing and followed the instructions for this. But I get an error message declaring the the socks name/adress is wrong please put the right one in. Can I simply ut any from the list in or is it country specific? I am putting in 200.153.199.86 and th port is already filled in as 1080.
Please can some kind person advise before I have to change my pants again?!

From the first post here...

Hi,
just curious as to how you guys would determine as to whether a proxy was a honeypot or not? Do you 'traceroute' the IP address and see where it goes or what?
Its just, before I knew much about honeypots I used a porxy to DL,...... I think it was just a N64 rom, but after a while outa curiousity I did a traceroute on it through a website. I think it was SaudiArabia or taiwan or somethin', but one of the hops went to NewYork and back. Though the site didn't actually say what country the IP was from or anything, just that the HostName was something like
so-3-1-0.mpr3.NewYork.us.above.net.

Any ideas?, it stopped responding to me in a day or so.

Wrong they can eaisly see your ip if your behind a router.

As for using these proxies they are slow as hell, paid services like annox are much faster.
