#####################################################THIS IS A COMBINED HOSTS FILE FROM AROUND THE WEB. I HAVE KEPT THEIR OWN REMARKS. I USED THIS FILE ON THREE HI END P4 MACHINES AND I WAS SHOCKED.
I HAVE NOT HAD ANY, I MEAN ANY AD POP UP OR EVEN AD PICTURES. BUT WHAT REALY SHOCKED IS MOST OF THE PAGES I HAVE BROWSED WITH THIS FILE SEEMS TO HAVE TONS OF ADS, EVEN FROM QUALITY SITES
NOTE TO ALL USERS: USE AT YOUR RISK, I CLAIM NOTHING, OTHER THAN A FILE I COMBINED TO SHARE WITH ANYONE AND EVERYONE.
FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME IF YOU'D LIKE TO ADD AND OR IF YOU HAVE UPDATED THIS FILEWITH MORE DATA.

As of 08/18/2003 21:23 UTC, this file contains 26,164 unique addresses. I believe this may may be the largest compiled HOSTS file on the web.
Don't forget to add your favorites in the section "# Trusted Hosts - Enter your trusted hosts here with their correct IP addresses"
#####################################################

I don't know where to upload this file to share with everyone here, any ideas?

go to stehen martin's website.

edexter is the program, the best in the world, add it to your start up and blocks all ads by replacing them with a transparent image.

Anyone know if there are any disadvantages to a large collection of addresses in the HOSTS file? If not, how about you share with me your file and I'll compile them then share with everyone. I'll also maintin it.

If u have a old computer then u should stick with lame pop up stopper, or if u paid less than $1000 stick with pop up stopper....if havent done either of those then use the hosts file. If u have either of those two then ur internet will be slow,at leat thats what people say, but mines not affected.

EDIT: Hey you guys how many KB are u hosts files?

nikita69

Mine is 1.5MB. By the way, anyone remember what is the name of that program that lets you add more file to the main HOSTS file without duplicates?

Ah, so all is well...
I forgot it was Dark Blizzard, his avatar changed since I remember it last.
Also I though the HOST file he had was linked in his sig last time I looked.

@DarkBlizzard, mine is only 25K since I'm on WinME here.

@nikita69, I posted a link on the first page in this post, but here it is again...

U'r the man REALITY. Thx. I'm still waiting for anyone to share with me their HOSTS file to compile and share with everyone. Haven't received from anyone. By the way, the number of addresses in my file is up to 32K+ @ 2.3MB.

   UPDATE-
Found a large file on the net, now the file total unique addresses is 48,859.

BUT, that file I found contained 0.0.0.0 (unique web addresses from what I have) instead of the standard 127.0.0.1. WILL THIS WORK? Will the file run properly with both in there? 0.0.0.0 & 127.0.01

is it true that a large host file will slow your connection?

The file is @ 62K+ with 1.8MB file size.

Thanks Paul, I know 0.0.0.0 works, but will it work in combination of 127.0.0.1 in the same file?

I downloaded the hosts file there and used it but I have a big problem with it. Ever since I put it in there I cannot use aim correctly. Like aim starts but when I click on a name, it freezes and cpu usage goes to 100%. So does anyone know where these entries are in there that I can remove to stop this from happening because I use aim and browse the interent quite often.

Start by looking at the 21 addresses found in that file. Search for "aol.com". Frankly I DIDN'T, DON'T and would never WOULD use any of AOL services. MANY OF THERE SERVICES ARE AD DERIVED. Good luck.

Here's a link that you can use for how to resolve it: http://www.msnusers.com/vb5lnhjc71oosjmldi...cuments/AOL.jpg (http://www.msnusers.com/vb5lnhjc71oosjmldimj19kht2/Documents/AOL.jpg)

Well, actually I just use deadaim and aim patcher and it makes aim hella tight. You can remove any ad, buddy list transparency, tabbed windows(thank you lord), and sign off/on/go away, come back from away notifications and other various things. Then aim patcher just changes the colors for the aim buddy list windows and stuff.

If you want deadiam go to www.jdennis.com, then find a key gen on kazaa.

when u have a hosts file with around 65,000 addresses, it could, on some systems.
