thinking of getting one of those Asus EEE's but it comes with Linux installed

Never used Linux, but fancy giving it a go - I assume Newsleecher won't work with it. Where do I go from here?

Pan works. It is what I mainly use.

I also have newsrover running under WINE. I pretty much use newsrover to search what I'm looking for and then grab it with Pan.

Thunderbird does alright.

There are a couple dozen other newsclients.

You will also need to install par2 and unrar

You may need an external HD or server access since some of the EEEs come with 4 or 8 GB SSD only.

I also just installed Linux, and am wondering what is the most preferred reader that Linux users use. Any suggestions? I'm not big on Newsleecher. The reader I use on windows is Alt.Binz(would this run under Wine?). So if there is something like that for linux, I would really like to know. And I use NZB sites, so the reader doesn't have to load headers.

I'm guessing maybe Pan and SABnzbd is the most liked or most used Linux users?

Thanks.

It will run under Wine. I used the 0.25.0 version in Wine.

Pan is pretty much your best option if you decide not to try to run something under wine.

Nice. Thank you guys for the info. I will first try out Pan. I don't really want to install Wine, because I keep reading that for every app on Windows, there's a Linux equivalent.

But if I can't get used to Pan, or don't like it, then I"ll have to go with Wine to use Alt.Binz.

I have yet to take the time to learn about Pan's "scoring" rules. But I hear that if used properly you can filter out most junk that is out there..

I've come to enjoy Pan. It was my first client, and there is pretty good support for it. Have a look at their mailing lists.

Cool. I'll get it set up tomorrow and give it a try. Are there any other Linux readers that you think are descent?

No. Unless you want to get old school.
