I'm a newsgroup guy but I was wondering what is the most sought after tracker and why?

overall? Torrentleech probably. it's one of the most popular.

I'd probably have to say that FTN is the most sought after overall because it is ratio free, has no minimum seed time, has great PRE times and speeds, is very exclusive, and has a great design. But it really depends on who you ask, because not everyone is looking for 0-day trackers...

Being able to brag about it. It is a huge increase to your epen0r.

I said I was a newsgroup guy? Why would I want to wait in line for a torrent that I can have down in 28 minutes?

I like your nick / avatar :)

Thanks

The most sought after trackers will be useless to you if you're a newsgroup user.
Some trackers have things you can't find on usenet. The ones that specialise.

ftn is hardly the best.....only if you don't like ratios.

If nobody seeds, nobody downloads.....how can you not like ratios?.

Speed is everything.

Running Linux I already have just about everything I'll ever need at my disposal for free and from fast servers. Things that I do download I want them fast.

If I'm in the mood for a movie, I find one I'd like to watch and grab it.. I get to watch an hour or two later.. I don't want to wait in line to have it complete 2-5 days later which by then I have decided I want to watch a different movie..

I missed Wednesdays Mythbusters, I grabbed all 1.3GB of it in 25 minutes and was on my way to watching it. And I would suspect that someone did the same as me only to then make it a torrent to up it on a tracker they needed rapport.

Lot of wasted steps and time if you ask me.

Agree. Unless it's something specialised, forget torrents. They are for kids. :smilie4:

Defintely FTN. Why? I have no idea. Probably because of that dumbass WTAW thread? A false sense of "eliteness" if they finally become a member there?

It's just another torrent site.

Stick with newsgroups. It's a much better way to grab your files.

You shouldn't need a ratio to make you seed; you should seed because you want to help share.

I agree.. I believe the world of torrent technology is one of the 'first steps' new young computer gurus-to-be learn. Right after MySpace and FaceBook are conquered.

Why do you think I don't use public trackers -_-?

IMO,All ratios do is to cause people to jump on all the new torrents, wether they want that torrent or not, just so they can form a buffer, so they don't take a ratio hit when they find something they actually want to download.

Ratio's are a very important thing, if you can't see that, you have a crap connection, or otherwise can't seed, so the only thing you hate is uploading, not ratios.....so go public, its all you deserve.

well its a double edged sword isnt it.

Without seeders the tracker would be dead as no downloader could complete anything.

but without downloaders the tracker is dead because the seeders have no one to seed to.

problem is most people want something for nothing, and with a tracker of 3000 ish members who have been there awhile, no ratio probably works. with a tracker of 10,000+ I can forsee a disaster.

OK 3,000 may play fair, but the rest will just take everything they can get and fuck the rest, as long as they get it, who cares, thats why i believe ratios are important, but they are not the perfect answer by any means, coming up with that perfect answer is a hard job though lol

Yes, I have a crap connection. And no, I don't hate uploading. I seed everything for a very, very long time. And that is on sites with no ratio, or a "minimum seed time". I guess you need ratios on larger sites, because not everyone in a larger site is going to care about wether people are able to download something or not, kind of like a bystander effect. But in smaller sites, no-ratio works well. I suppose that's why I like the smaller communities more :P

"Oh, there's plenty of other people here, they don't need me".

BTW, why do I "only deserve being on a public site"? There's no need for little attacks.

Stick with newgroups mate files tend to show up a tiny bit later then trackers such as ScT however newsgroups have tons more content and have far better retention.

Absolutely especially with Giganews having 240 days of retention.

I have never used newsgroups, I assume they have better speeds on old stuff. But I can grab 1.3 gigs in less than 25 minutes on a handful of trackers. s*c, s*t ect.

I realize seeds go away, but I have been able to get pretty good speeds on relatively old stuff at places like tl where there are a buttload of members.

Im not disagreeing that newsgroups are better or not, this comment just seemed off a little

The speed on usenet is relative to what speed your connection is obviously.
What he meant by the speed he quoted would have been his maximum.
The speed on usenet will always max out that sort of line. The age of the file is irrelevant. The files are hosted on a company's high-speed servers and remain there for up to 240 days.

Yeah, like I said I havent tried newsgroups (will eventually), and am not saying torrents are better.

This line through me off mostly "I don't want to wait in line to have it complete 2-5 days later which by then I have decided I want to watch a different movie..".
