Please be advised that until this matter is resolved, the server is unable to take on new connections. In other words, if you are a user trying to log in, you will be unable to, though the server IS, in fact up. Additionally, if you close your client, reboot, or whatnot; you will also be unable to log back on to the server. Connectivity is, naturally, congruant with the domain being available. This will be remedied as quickly as possible.

Here is the fix:

Find your hosts file,
in Windows XP it is C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
in Windows 2000 it is C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
in Windows 98 it is C:\WINDOWS\hosts
I'm not sure what it is in ME/95.

Now open the file with Notepad.
Add these four lines to the very bottom of the file:

38.115.131.131 sk2.slsk.org
38.115.131.131 www.slsk.org
38.115.131.131 mail.slsk.org
38.115.131.131 server.slsk.org

Now go to: File\Save (Not Save-As)

This will solve the problem.

This is for FC, because he is the master of fixes. So.... here is the story, I have Win98 SE ... anyway I go into windows and look for the &#39;hosts&#39;. I have two, one is named &#39;hosts&#39; and the other is named &#39;Hosts&#39;. Both are unassociated with any program to open it with, and have the &#39;windows&#39; icon inside it.

I opened the &#39;hosts&#39; one with notepad and added those lines you had listed. then I clicked &#39;File&#39; and then save and had no clue what type to save it as or where to save it in... so I saved it as a txt doc and in windows.... and that did absolultely nothing except create a text file... I dont know why soulseek wont work still. I did read that little dialog you put at the beginning about the domain name. I read that somewhere, but that didnt tell me anything other than "just wait and it will be back up soon"

So... I hope you have some suggestions.

goto the hosts file you changed...and delete the .txt at the end of it...should do the trick...

Thanks for directing me to Cel.... since he is the real master of fixes....although you all are wizards and I am but a peon and cant fix this @#%%% thing. Ok so this is simple I am sure... but here is what my client says when I try to to open it.

"Could not resolve server address. If your Internet connection is up, this might be a temporary problem with your name resolution service. Please try again later."

When I go to my windows folder there still are two files in there... one is &#39;hosts&#39; and the other is &#39;Hosts&#39;. I tried again with the &#39;hosts&#39; and get the same result. It just creates a new .txt files with all the same info that was there when I opened it with the notepad program.

Yes, Hog.... I did click &#39;Save&#39; and not &#39;Save As&#39; just as I did the first time.

I took a look at what you said Cel about deleting the .txt portion at the bottom and I do not see and IP addresses with .txt extenstions there.... so I really dont know what you mean.

Additionally, I tried to open the &#39;Hosts&#39; file the same way and it seems its a sample file. when I closed it, the icon inside that file changed from the standard windows icon to a different one.... and I checked properties to see what type of file it was and it is called a &#39;SAM&#39; file... I have no clue what that is.

The original &#39;hosts&#39; file on the other hand remained the same, and when I clicked on properties for that one and check the type of file, it is still called &#39;File&#39; .

I am still without soulseek.

It seems the most recent problem I&#39;m having is not that server Hosts.txt (fixed that one)
but just the large amount of memory slsk is hogging up.
:unsure: It&#39;s slowing my web browsing down A LOT and bringing my downloads in soulseek to a crawl, or almost complete stop.

Thanks for all your input Linda and "Hogster" hehehehe funny name there.... anyways, as I have said before.. I am not saving as... I am just saving. But, I did get a message from celery and he said to save as text.... now... for me to save as anything I must, well.....&#39;save as&#39; although I have not... I repeat I have not.... once again... I have not &#39;saved as" yet.... but I might just try that, because simply trying to click &#39;save&#39; puts a .txt file in my windows folder.

yes click save and rename...and delete the .txt off the end of the filename...

actully that was very werid I rememebr when you cel and Mog were talking about that on the Temporay forum yet I was still able at that time to still be able to connect to soulseek then it decided to f*ck up after I read summerlindas post :angry:

ok heres a question...... had a quick browse round soulseek and
everything.... and kinda noticed either ppl have thousands of files all complete
albums of they have like 200 songs :unsure: .... maybe 1 or 2 albums... and
sharing their kazaa folder etc.... i read the rules blah blah blah and it according to

hey crumb i d/l that patch or whatever it was right and it still isnt working and i checked the server status and it was up and running anyone got anymore ideas?

Backup your .cfg files first.

.cfg files? what the? Ok this is what i did so i copied those files and i opened microsoft word and entered the text then saved it and exited then d/l that link that crumb sent me. what did i do wrong guys i need my soulseek need new music....

They contain the info. about:

Your approved userlist
Your user info.
Etc.

They are named:

attributes.cfg
autoaway.cfg
chatrooms.cfg
dlbans.cfg
hotlist.cfg
ignores.cfg
login.cfg
queue.cfg
queue2.cfg
rcmnd.cfg
save.cfg
search.cfg
shared.cfg
transfersview.cfg
ui.cfg
userinfo.cfg
wishlist.cfg

They will save you from having to rebuild all that info.

It may be different for you - just use explorer to find it.
