What.cd - Does it match OiNK?

I think what.cd has come up pretty well after the descent of the legendary OiNK Pink Palace. It has some very nice themes, lots of content and above all (for me), Gazelle. Do you think it is upto the quality of OiNK (or better) or not?

My opinion is that it has come up to the standard of OiNK.

I agree it can be a pain to seed on. The only sureshot way is to upload your own torrents. BTW, currently, they have free leech, so lots of leechers.

How hard is it to seed on what? I'm a member of libble and I think its pretty tough. There is usually 10 or less seeders and 0-1 leechers per torrent. Uploading my own stuff is the only way I get any decent seeding action.

They are community focused, not just focused within their own site, but the bit torrent community at large. Their openness with their source code, vision and direction is refreshing and exciting. So what.cd gets my vote, hands down!

I don't think it's up to OiNK's status yet. It's a great site though, and it keeps getting better. What will make it one of the best music sites around is if they implement a bonus system(since it can be a little tough to seed at times).

oink had a buzz surrounding it, that transcended beyond the filesharing community. I saw people on non-filesharing boards constantly giving out and requesting oink invites. I don't see that happening for what or waffles.

What actually got me listening to music more with their similar artists diagram at the bottom of each artists' name. That opened my music world right up. Now itunes is running pretty much 24 7 for me.

And re the easiness to seed. What is not hard at all. Waffles is extremely hard, but what seems to have a more active leeching base, for my torrents anyway.

What.CD is a great great site. Probably the best music bittorrent site around, and in many ways better than OiNK. There are new features being added every week which is a lot more than you can say with every other bittorrent site.
They've also shared their codebase with everybody so that people can check it for security holes and help out with the coding. They're very forward thinking people.

Torrents wise the site now has 30 thousand more torrents than OiNK did when it was shutdown, and invites are relatively easy to come by. If you know about sharing music but don't have any friends with invites there is an irc room that they will interview you for an invite. Currently they're running a competition to increaese the variety of albums on the site and ending with a free-leech. Thousands of new albums have been uploaded; It's amazing!

In the next couple of months What.CD will surpass OiNK.

edit: As far as not being able to seed on a site such as this, as others have said it's really about patience and keeping everything seeding. Even with a seedbox unless you have 100+ torrents seeding you won't really get anywhere. Also uploading really pays off and keeps the site running well. :)

What and Waffles are amazing in their own ways. Within this first year, they have exceeded most expectations... and by far! They are both doing a great job taking bit torrent in a new, useful direction.

The site just takes a while to update. Theres been loads of times I've started newly uploaded torrents that the site says have 0 seeds, when they actually had 5 or 6 snatches already.

As i was only a member at OiNK for a few weeks before it was taken down, i may remember it wrong, but wasn't the number of torrents around 200k at the end? What.CD has 290k torrents today so either i remember it wrong, or i have no idea what you're talking about?

Well, What.CD currently has 70k more torrents than OiNK had at the end. But I think it's fair to say what made OiNK great wasn't the amount of torrents but the amount of activity (torrents uploaded per day / amount of comments / threads in the forum). I think What.CD is currently worse on these things, but it has a lot more users than any other private music site, so is ahead, and is open to more members so it won't be long now. :)

I have never had trouble seeding on what because of all the freeleechs. I mean now I'm sitting a freakin' huge buffer and there are no worries and guess what? All new torrents are free for six hours. Just ain't a problem for me. Anyway, between what and waffles I've got all the music a guy could want so oink has been replaced.

Oink wasn't entirely easy to seed on either. I think I got most of my bandwidth by uploading new torrents in FLAC format (or jumping on brand new ones as soon as someone else started one). I don't think its much different on What.CD. Maybe a little harder (I don't think I ever upped something to oink that didn't get hopped on within a few minutes, sometimes on what.cd it can sit there along time and not get a hit).
