You are right, it does suck... But everyone drools over it because its pretty or something, I dunno.

Just use google to search for a different one. or use broadbandreports

I think people use it because you can post a link to your test and people
know its real then, most of the other sites you would have to do a screenshot
and that can be modified easily

I used to always use speakeasy.net when I used to think my net was getting capped at certain times, and when I was experimented with different VPSes.

Agreed never liked speedtest.net and as far as giving you a link you are still never certain if they borrowed a link from someone else. I usually use testmy.net. It is fairly accurate. It also gives a test id if someone wanted to verify. Still run into the same problem if it is theirs or someone elses tho

I used to use speakeasy, but seeing as I live in the UK it wasn't very accurate. I moved onto using speedtest.net, and it gave very accurate results but it takes too long going through all that flash world map crap. I now use http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ which loads quickly and gives me accurate results as its a UK based server. :)

Speedtest is wierd. Its only accurate for me when I choose certain servers a few states away. The ones right here in my city show very poor results, although they are just a few miles from here. Very odd. I'll have to check out some of these other tests.

Speedtest is just fine. Gives almost identical results and BBR and others...looks better..gives a large choice of servers and provides linkage. What's not to like? Some folks just like to discredit the norm just so they can stand out and be noticed...gimme a break...

speedtest.net and speakeasy speedtest are the same test, powered by ookla. Only speakeasy is more limited in their servers.

I'm lucky that speedtest actually has a server near my place and I've got a good reading. However, my speeds to far away places like London or St. Petersburg are half and quarter speed respectively.

If you have a bad connection to the nearest server on speedtest then yeah find another ookla speed test site with a server near you.

nice spam...

OT: speedtest does suck. The speeds you get are reliant on the server you try it on. On the server closest to me, i get poor speeds, so I end up doing it on a server quite far away, and even then, it doesn't saturate my line

Every speed testing result depends on the server your using, distance, congestion on the target server as well as ping time/latencies. I have a 20/2 connection and I have absolutely no problem finding a server to max my line.

speedtest does not show you the real stuff you should try ftp or something else dld a program from a public server and see whats the real deal

In the past, when I had problems with my connection and I'd call my ISP, they would have me check my speed using Speakeasy.
And this was with more than one ISP.
I'd imagine that would give it a bit more credibility than other speed testers.
The last thing an ISP wants is some inaccurate results, it could really cause some problems.

Speedtest.net happens to be the number one source for speed testing, it never let me down.
