for a rock CD i'll tell you to listen to

Led Zepplin - Early and Latter Days

download those two and then make your own mind up...

its all about your own taste and what you think the difference between punk and rock are...

1. guitar playign sux learn 1 chord which is a power chord nothing else

2. is really no singing vocals they can't sing for shit

3. drummer beats practilly the same fast tempo or 4/4 beat no trick timings

4. Lyrics arn't really that good most are teenage lyrics or joke lyrics aka Bliunk 182

5. Baically Punk has to sound the same fast tempo where Rock can have more variety

BTW I quite happen to like Punk saw Blink 182 a few years ago and they were funny guys saws Area 7 and Frenzal too

but Musical Wise its simple and I prefer Dark anger depressing lyrics

PUNK= GBH, Sex Pistols, TSOL, Adolescents, US Bombs, UK Subs, and of course, The Clash... but some would have referred to the clash as Mod... and the mod scene would have also included the Who and a number of other Ska-ish bands, which in fact is where ska came from... from mod... it all stems from everything.

Rock is well of course Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Zeppelin of course and Rush.. and you can go and include early Judas priest and Rush is definitely rock.... along with The Police and Pink Floyd, and how about Jethro Tull... although Tull did get the best Heavy Metal award ... whatever&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;

punk is anti-rock. or it was originally, anyway. it is a form of rock music, but it was a rejection of all of the pomp, glitz, smoke & mirrors, virtuoso musicianship and endless solos that characterized popular rock bands of the 1970s. punk rockers wanted to strip rock n roll down to the basics-- a few simple chords, a fast beat, no solos, an angry guy yelling into the microphone about politics/society/whatever working class british kids were pissed off about back in the 70s, and songs that were finished in less than three minutes.

the 70s style of punk rock was pretty much a one-trick pony that could only be taken so far, so after a few years it changed into other things like new wave, goth and hardcore. and then in the 90s, green day popularized "pop punk" (less angry, less political, more formulaic musically), which is now enormously profitable for major labels.

on the other side, hardcore has turned into something much more abstract that is hardly recognizable as punk at all-- sometimes it sounds more like a bastardized form of death/black-metal, but a lot less oriented toward song-structure and without all the solos (of course). and the songs tend to be short-- sometimes as short as 30 seconds, and rarely exceeding 2 minutes.

so yeah... the original "punk rock" is long gone, and its current offshoots don&#39;t really bear much resemblance to it at all, aside from the fashion.

but its not entirely true.
There r a lot of punk bands with the members that are older in age,
there r also a lot of younger ones too. Same goes with rock.

But I personally don&#39;t think there&#39;s a really big difference at all, most punk and rock bands send the same messages, you know?

The only thing different some of the time is the sound, like with "hard-core punk"
they scream a lot and are less chorused, but with "hard-core rock (metal)"
they scream a lot too but there music is more chorused.

And with alternative rock and alternative punk, they try to sing more and bring out the music with there instruments, but it all boils down to what there singing about ya know?

Punk is a way of life by itself. It is not a term naturally tied only to music. Punk music developed as a byproduct of punk culture. There are no definable characteristics involved in the making of punk music. Any style of music can be considered punk. It just depends on if the band members consider themselves to be punk or not, really. BTW, anyone can call themselves punk. Hence, all of the bogus "punk" music out there (Blink-182). punk rock is faster upbeat and most of them are posers. they&#39;re the kind of bands that don&#39;t write thier own music and lyrics and do what the record label tells them to do in order to sell a lot of albums.

rock artists actually make thier own music and write thier own lyrics. most of the music is heavier and doesn&#39;t sound popish as much as punk rock. rock is a larger genre than just punk rock. you could probably say rock is in a transitional phase (metal,nu-metal,metal/rap,rock) whatever you want to call it.

I will try and give a simplified difference:

Punk: Musicians have green spinky hair, have peirced noses and play fender strats with the guitar to the level of thier knees. The guitar has stickers on it usualy. The chords are few, and the amp settings are on crunch.

Rock: Usualy big built guys, wearing black t-shirts and long hair. they have excess facial hair. Thier guitars are waist high, have big fat hands and strum very meaty sounding chords which usualy include mad solos.


but in all honesty, i&#39;d say punk is rock. so is metal part of rock. Rock is the main category these are just some of its children.
