I avoid IRC servers like the plague, but I'm in need of one right now. However, I have a question that needs answering.

What do I need type after seeing this message? Please be specific.

"You need a registered nickname to join this channel"

Everyone is suggesting different stuff. :ermm:

[LIST][COLOR=Black]
Register: /ns register <password> <youremail>

I entered that and it said, "You are not on a channel".

/msg nickserv register [email] [password]

and then you may have to identify yourself

/msg nickserv identify [password]

edit: kondare beat me to it

When I enter, "/msg nickserv register [[email protected]] [password]"

I get the message, "NickServ- [password] is not a valid e-mail address."

There are multiple commands for registering and identifying. You can try either.

1) /msg nickserv register "password" "Email"
2) /msg ns register "password" "email"
3) /ns register "password" "email"

If the above doesn't work, type /msg nickserv help register

For identifying, type this

1) /msg nickserv identify "password"
2) /ns identify "password"
3) /ns id "password"

When I type the suggested text I get
"-NickServ- Syntax: REGISTER password email
-
-NickServ- /msg NickServ HELP REGISTER for more information."

That's just noise to me.

Is it valid email address? Give a real email address.

Skiz

Of course it's a valid email address.

Besides, the reply by the IRC server was instant.

Fuck all this, I sorted the issue out another way.

Fuck IRC. Fuck it to the max.

were you putting the [ ] 's around the email address??

you don't use any [ or ] when issuing that command

Yep. I sure did.

You lot said to do it so I did.

That's why I said to be specific. I'm a 100% pure wet behind the ears, green, pneub when it comes to IRC.

Oh well, disaster averted.

/msg niskcerv register passwordhere emailhere

when successfull, you will get something like
"Nickname XXXX registered."

Then you have to identify (login) urself: (you have to use same name as the one you registred with)

/msg nickserv identify yourpasswordhere

You should get
"Password accepted - you are now recognized."

Thats it, incase you havent give up already lol

Skizo, type this exactly...

/msg nickserv register yourpasswordhere youremailhere

Replace yourpasswordhere with the password that you want, and replace youremailhere with whatever your email is.

I have the same trouble on some channels Skizo. When people just keep repeating the same thing that obviously you don't understand it isn't helping.
It's like the old joke about speaking slower in a foreign language like that's going to make a difference.

I suggest getting in your car, driving to a lake and throwing the computer in.

He cannot join channel without registring the name, read the first post.

I also suggest to use mIRC. Atleast it gives "error" msg's, why the command doesnt work.

chatzilla also gives error messages.

Using an actual chat client is preferable over ChatZilla if you want to take IRC seriously, but it's not all that hard. mIRC is a good choice if you're using windows; once you've opened mIRC, you can type /ircintro for a basic introduction to Internet Relay Chat, and /help for a mIRC guide.

If you didn't get it already, it's "/msg nickserv register passwordhere [email protected]" without the quotes. You'll also have to identify each time you log back on to the server, which is "/msg nickserv identify passwordhere". To change your name, it's "/nick nicknamehere".
