Been using utorrent thought it had problems, as it has the orange triangle at the bottom. Sometimes it slow others its good, sometimes when i am download when you look in tracker it allow some and not others.
[DHT]
[LOCAL PEER DISCOVERY]
[PEER EXCHANGE]
The above 3 are allowed is some downloads other its not is there a reason for this.

DHT stands for Distributed Hash Table. It is a method implemented by some Bittorrent clients to share content without the presence of a tracker.
DHT should always be disabled in your Bittorrent client if you are using a private tracker, as it can create problems for private trackers. It allows connecting to clients which are not registered with the tracker, which will result in invalid statistics. It can allow for leakage of private information. And it can result in an overload of UDP traffic, which can cause problems for Internet connections and routers.

Bitcomet was the first client I've used while still using only public trackers. When I started with private trackers I had to change since it's banned in (probably) all tracers.

I prefer Transmission...just for the pure fact that it is easy to use, lite on the system, and doesn't have all the "flashy" stuff Vuze (Azureus) has which is useless. And Transmission seems to run very well on OS X.
TopKill
08-02-2010, 08:12 PM
On os x, Transmission is a hog, but it has brain dead features like actually letting me decide where my files should be downloaded when opening a torrent, instead of just one folder.
I am using utorrent though for my private trackers, which involves opening preferences each time before I add a file, and picking a download location. It runs like a champ though, even with 125 torrents. Transmission becomes sluggish with just 20 for me.

is it really necessary to filter ips??
It's very recommended on countries where they do care. Plus regardless of where you live, if certain IP ranges are known to spread fakes or harvest addresses, then what's the point of connecting to them? That's why I use uIpFilterX. It's updated regularly and doesn't have loads and loads of ranges, only the most important ones.

@ anon-sbi - I suspect that many people treat this 'preference' question as if it were "blond, brunette, or redhead?" -- no explanation needed
How about complaints against utorrent:
* Can cause eye strain when using multiple trackers.
* Can't kick/ban "leeches" (traditional P2P definition)
* not totally portable (reads/writes config info in /documents and settings/)

1. eye strain?
2. that one's true. Complaints have been posted on the uTorrent forums about how to program doesn't ban clients known to be abusive (mostly Chinese ones), but the developers have refused to discriminate peers by that criteria.
3. if you create a dummy file called settings.dat in the same directory as the executable, uTorrent will store its preferences, the resume file and .torrent files there, therefore making it fully portable. I've done this to be able to leech when I wasn't at home, so I know it can be done. :)

Since utorrent is a single executable file requiring no other dependencies, it is extremely simple to run in an virtual environment on any other platform i.e. using Wine or CXO under Linux and Parallels under MacOS if you wish, once again the amount of system resources used (even within a virtualbox ) is nominal.
One of the causes:nthere is no .nix version of it
There is a Linux version. Apparently, it's command-line only, but you can control it using the WebUI.
