Hi,

I have just recieved a "nice" letter from my ISP Tiscali, stating that;

The BPI have contacted us regarding illegal p2p activity.
They have given tiscali the details of the download of a torrent.

Tiscali have not passed our information onto them this time, and have advised how to prevent malware unauthorised people from downloading torrents.
It states nothing about further action but has left us confused about what to do, as we have no idea of what they can do. (in terms of fines and legal action)

Stop altogeather
Carry on
Carry on using a anonmous p2p client

Any advice?

Thanks

Wow, dejavu (sp?). Just read this same thing on another forum, lol.
Good advice in the response over there:
Use newsgroups or private torrent sites. Be sure to use encryption for torrents, you can also get programs that block known threatening computers such as peerguardian.

I dont download a lot, I would say 2GB a Week Couple of shows and a few songs and maybe a new album...

By private torrent sites do you mean ones which require a login and password to enter?
And excuse my n00b nees but whats a newsgroup?

Cheers

private site means one you need an invite to sign up for, not open to the public.

Newsgroups...well...thats a little harder to explain. Basically its a bunch of servers out there, you pay a monthly fee, and you can download what you want from them directly, not from other peers. No uploading is needed for this option, which IMO makes it safer since they normally go after uploaders and distributers, not leechers (downloaders)

Actually, that's jumping the gun. You need to read about Usenet first or just start with the stickies in the Newsgroups section.

People get letters all the time. Unless they sue you, it's just a warning.

I will get between 50 and life for all illegal stuff I have in my PC...

Yep with Tiscali the first 2 are just warnings. If you get a 3rd they disconnect you. :(
