longest I've had mine on is 37 hours, but I've been told you can have it on for weeks. Personally I don't like to leave it on for longer than a day because I don't want to risk damaging my pc.

Depends on your system, so I wouldnt say that is always true.

Also, heh, that reminds me of my friend steve, his record for being on AIM was 28 Days, on his Mac Lap Top, ROFL.

No but serious, dont worry about keeping it on 24/7 they were made to do that.

Last time I switched mine off was to fit the pci adsl modem back in May.

If I leave me PC on for a long time it consupts alot of ram so I need to reboot before playing a game. Longest I left it on was 8 days cuz it had 2 restart when putting in software

My PC has been on for well over a year. I have restarted occasionally and have turned it off to change parts and such. As soon as the parts have been changed it's back on. So, I wouldn't worry about that if I were you. Just use it the way you want to.

;) the only way your PC is going to get damamged if it has no ventilation or you have no fans on the comp so it would over heat over time

Mine runs 27/7 and only gets turned off to add hardware or reboot due to installations.I have no problems with mine whatsoever. I have heard it is better to leave it on because startup is the heaviest load on your power supply, idling puts near no strain on on your PSU.

Wow! What planet do you live on.27 hours per day? What type or internet connection do you have? Satallite? Sometimes I would like to have an extra 3 hours.

Btw, is that why you have 27 in your name johnboy27 ?

3 hours ? Why not 3 seconds ? Just imagine what you could do if you had 3 seconds per day that no-one else had.

;) Yeah it's fine to leave on.... I do the same with my downloads for movies and
I think others who upload from me appreciate it too. Although when I'm not
on a "movie binge" I shut down... It keeps my husband from bitching at me about the electric bill!

leave the damn pc on, there is no problem with that. as far as energy consumption enable hibernate mode on your pc, it uses very little energy. we have about 50 pc's at work we leave those suckers on all the time. sure every once in awhile we need to restart but thats normal. don't worry so much

I just have a generic 300 watt and I have no prob.I should probably have a 400 watt or so as I am putting quite a load on this one now,but it is better to only put the startup load on it once every couple of days.

Mines been on bout a year now,no damage yet, I never turn it off. Using IntelCeleron 1.6 Ghz. Processor not that expensive anyway if somethin did happen id jus buy a new processor or motherboard, I got the tower ,motherboard and processor new for only 180 bucks put it all together myself. No probs yet I think the biggest prob might be if your hardrive was to overheat jus keep it backed up. Business's hardley ever turn off their Pc's. Government Pcs never turn off unless theres a prob.

Its better for your computer to leave it on if you are not usin it put it on standby turnin off and on is harder on the proccesor then leaving it on. Bank computers 24/7 Atm's 24/7 Powerplants 24/7 gas stations 24/7 Post office 24/7 Wall Street 24/7 Our nation is the way it is cause computers are on 24/7 its ok to leave your computer on.

yea, i just got the comp, i'll be ordering the psu like today or tomorow. dude, my old computer has 200 watts!! and it runs pretty well if i leave it on. so i'm guessing the 500 watt should have no prob. only question i was asking is that will it fry up? it's not the best brand. That looks like a very reasonable psu for the money, always assuming it can match it's specifications. You shouldn't have any problems with that one, the highest current consumption is usually at start-up, normal running should not come anywhere near the max performance specs.

It is just a no name brand basically .It is only 300 watt and I run mine all the time.My specs are Athlon XP 2200+ (overclocked to 1950 mhz),512 mb DDR ,Radeon 7500 video, 80 gig Samsung hard drive,CDRW/DVD drive, sound card, lan ,modem, three lighted fans, led lights up both sides of my case, two other regular fans. I have yet to have power supply prob though I will be replacing it soon

this post a lil late - but it's actually better 2 leave ur pc on continually than 2 shut it off every night. what kills a pc is the "surge" of electrons through the mobo, hd when u turn it on. if u leave it on - the electricity is flowin through - instead of surgin.

just shut off yer monitor 2 prevent screen burn (cannot teach my end users on my LAN that simple step). u'll b fine.

i have a 250W psu, 5 years old, still works well [i do open it and blow the dirt of once every year or something]

my problem, howveer is this; i want to buy a new pc and i want the following DRIVES installed

2 SATA drives [raid 0 config]
1 CDRW
1 DVDROM
1 CD ROM [existing one, cause there are some CDs the newer drives are not able to read, dunno why]

plus an odd HDD once in a while, you know, swapping stuff off friends

where do i get a psu with so many power connectors?

Most new power supplies have quite a lot of power connectors but if you need more there are splitters as Kunal just said.

if leave your pc on for like days on end dont u need to refresh the memory by restarting it. i tend to do that. the longest i had mine on is about 3 days . it sucks for the power supply as well

you need to reboot once in a while mostly to flush the memory. windows has crappy memory management. there are some frigging good programs for that at download.com. other than that, you can leave it on all the time.

btw, how does it suck for power supply  ?
