A more specific question might be: Is Limp Bizkit better in their prime than Iron Maiden was in theirs? Clearly Iron Maiden has a following, but they aren't exactly winning the hearts of new fans, or the radio stations.

Iron Maiden single "Wildest Dreams" entered the UK charts at 6.
With the popularity of the metal and rock genre rising over here I'd say that a lot of these youngsters will find this band for the first time.

You ain't around that long i guess...

Check your records... Maiden has made more and better selling records...
It is one of the long time popular bands ... think limp can be glad if they're allowed to polish the shoes of Bruce & co... Maybe they can play as a supporting act...

if we're all gonna argue over who's the best, at least make it a good argument. instead of just saying a band sucks just because you personally don't like them isn't the way. I've given statitics and examples of why i think limpbizkit is better. that doesn't mean that i can't be swayed. i dont know iron maiden and have never heard of them. give me statitical facts on why iron maiden is better and if the evidence proves it then i'd admit it. i dont like metallica at all and i personally think they stink, but statictics prove that they are way better than limpbizkit. so i've admitted that limpbizkit isn't the best rock band of all time. i think statistically limp is better than iron maiden. prove me wrong, if you can.

Why did you say they were popular wannabes then?

Here's some background info:
<!--QuoteBegin-AllMusic.com
Known for such powerful hits as "Two Minutes to Midnight" and "The Trooper," Iron Maiden was and is one of the most influential bands of the heavy metal genre.
The often-imitated band existed for over 20 years, pumping out wild rock similar to Judas Priest. Iron Maiden has always been an underground attraction; although failing to ever obtain any real media attention in the U.S. (critics claimed them to be Satanists due to their dark musical themes and their use of grim mascot "Eddie"), they still became well-known throughout the world and have remained consistently popular throughout their career.
Iron Maiden was one of the first groups to be classified as "British metal," and, along with Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and a host of other bands, set the rock scene for the '80s.

Iron Maiden was first formed in 1976 by bassist Steve Harris, who would soon join up with rhythm guitarist Tony Parsons, drummer Doug Sampson, and vocalist Paul Di'Anno. Before finally obtaining a record deal, the group played in local areas throughout the '70s, receiving a fair amount of London airplay. Parsons was replaced with Dennis Stratton, and the band made its record debut in 1980 with their self-titled Iron Maiden album. Although the release was recorded in a hurry, it was nonetheless a hit in the U.K. due to the single "Running Free."

Iron Maiden's 1981 follow-up, Killers, displayed a harder approach to their music than before, and also saw the replacement of Stratton with Adrian Smith. Due to his uncontrollable alcohol addiction, Di'Anno was forced to part company with the group and would soon be replaced with vocalist Bruce Dickinson in 1982 for the band's groundbreaking release, Number of the Beast. This album, boasting such songs as the title track and "Hallowed By thy Name," would come to be known as one of the greatest rock recordings of all time. Since the unexpected worldwide success of Beast made them international rock superstars, they changed very little of their style for their next album, Piece of Mind. They undertook two major tours before recording 1983's Powerslave, which would go on to be another cult hit. The product of Powerslave's 11-month tour was 1985's Live After Death, a double live album the featured all of their biggest hit singles.

By the release of Live After Death, Iron Maiden had already established themselves as a powerful and unique metal band. Their long-awaited 1986 supplement album, Somewhere in Time, showed a bit of departure from their past releases, showcasing the use of synthesizer guitars and songs more relevant to the same themes. 1988's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, a concept album like its predecessor, featured the singles "The Evil That Men Do" and "The Clairvoyant," and soon became Iron Maiden's most critically acclaimed album since Number of the Beast. After another exhausting tour, Smith departed and the band took a one-year hiatus. With new guitarist Janick Gers, they resurfaced with No Prayer For the Dying in 1990, a record that returned to the classic sound the group used when recording their earlier releases. One of the album's singles, "Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter," was granted the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Song of the Year, but it nonetheless gave the band its first number one U.K. hit. By the time the group finished their 1991 tour, Dickinson expressed desire to leave and work to promote another band he had founded, the Skunkworks. Fear of the Dark, the band's last album with Dickinson, debuted at number one on the U.K. charts and became one of their biggest selling albums to date.

After their supporting tour, two live albums were released in 1993: A Real Live One, which contained live versions of their newer hit singles, and A Real Dead One, which featured the more "classic" Maiden songs live. Dickinson's replacement, Blayze Bayley, marked his debut in 1995 with The X Factor. While the record failed to chart as well as some of its predecessors, it was still a minor success in England. Iron Maiden marked the end of 1996 with Best of the Beast, a double compilation album. In 1998, little interest in the Virtual XI album prompted Bayley's termination; Dickinson and Smith returned to the band for a tour in 1999 and a new album, Brave New World, emerged the following year. Why did you say they were popular wannabes then?
i said it because i was just tired of people dissing lb. i dont really think they are popular wannabes, but i think it had something to do with them agreeing on filesharing.

i did some research of my own. iron maiden has over 20 albums and has sold over 50 million albums adding all 20.

Limpbizkit has had 4 albums. i did research not including "new songs, old songs", but i did research on the first 3 albums and they have sold over 28 million. thats over half of what iron maiden has sold in just 3 albums. this is some kind of joke.

you fail to realize, they did this with out the radio and mtv and huge music fests that have helped limp puntang reach their sales height. they also did this during a major nation wide witch hunt against heavy metal music. plus they never were a trendy band in the way limp quoff are.

fred's ego was never limpbizkit's problem. wes and fred didn't get along musically. wes wanted a different sound while fred wanted to keep the limpbizkit sound. therefore wes left the band without warning or time for them to replace them with the excuse that "if i kept it up any longer than i would be faking it". He left limpbizkit because it was not the music he wanted to play.

he now leads eat the day which doesn't have a vocalist and hasn't sold or released a single album. but wes does have a part in the "underworld" soundtrack from what i hear.

never a problem? go talk to creed, slipknot, taproot, ect, ect, about fred not having an ego problem

btw: it general means if you have released and album, you problably haven't sold an album..........dumbfuck

not that much younger than the beatles.........and btw, for you young people, their was music before mtv.......

i suppose if you give them that excuse and if that factor actually determining the difference in sales. but i dont think it does. i've checked the dates for the past ten years and they have more albums than limpbizkit. limp sells twice as much as they did in the past ten years. even counting the extra albums.

how many singles and videos did they release? hmmmm? think lp could sell as many as iron maiden with out the radio and mtv push?

how many singles and videos that are release is up to the artist. people don't just decide if a single is a hit or not. the band or artist picks which song or video goes next.

the correct answer was none, they hardly supported them, yet, yet, they still sold how many copies?

we're talking about lb (limpbizkit) not lp(linkin park). Linkin park is the highest selling rock band this year. linkin park is the most popular rock band today. not even limpbizkit, metallica or anyone is better than linkin park at the moment. if linkin park stays a band for a while, then they will be the highest selling rock band of all time in a short period of time.

Eagles Their Greatest Hits 1971–1975, Eagles (Elektra)

dude thats a greatest hits cd. and it's had a very long time to sell. the beatles are classics. if linkin park is around longer than the beatles then i can guarantee that they will way more albums than the beatles.

linkin park sold over 8 million with just hybrid theory. 1 album just in 2001. becoming the highest selling band in 2001. i dont even know how much meteora has sold and i bet it's more than 8 million.

The thing is you shouldn't care what other people think...

Music is about individual expression...you should love the music you love and not try and influence other people on the style you love...

I posts threads on bands i like to get them noticed...not because i want to influence them upon everyone here...Take my thread on me first and the gimme gimmes...hardly anyone had heard of them...now they are the most popular download off me...

The thing is i really like linkin park, adema, staind, cold and all the new bands like that, yet im also heavily into 70's punk and 80's rock...and im also heavily into Aussie Rock...aswell as everything in between...shit i don't even mind pop music sometimes...

Yet i know no one will have the same tastes as me...but i don't care...because this is the music i love and i couldn't care if say...no one in the world besides me liked the band Cold...i can relate to their music so much and i would listen to them like a religion...

So for everyone who has decided to take a shot at limpbizkit...i have seen all your guys folders...and none of you guys are straight out metal...because you have all downloaded pop/rock/nu-metal/punk off me...

Just remember do what you wanna do when the fuck you wanna do it...

Love your music and the world will be a better place...
