I spotted one of those enormous house spiders the other day. I usually leave them alone cos they keep any bugs down, and they keep other spiders out.

I found it again today.
Dead.
Squashed.
And I have been walking about in my bare feet. :x

We supposedly have have a zillion mites living on our skin, in our hair and in our homes too, how do you feel about that?

Bigboab: how's the screenshot coming?

they sell one of those zappers in stores, they are made to look like tennis racket, but in fact they are like 10,000 volt zappers.

yeah i bought one of these the other way. extremely useful again bugs like mosquetos and stuff

One day my friend called me and said to bring the "bitch" and that it's urgent. so I didn't know what's going on so I changed the batts in the racket and rushed to my freind's house. There I found 2 huge spiders "doing it", so I zapped them like there is no tomorrow, yeah and it was ...a mess :D

Nope, couldn't have been a camel spider, I'm not going to run around the house at 10 mph just to tread on a spider.

yeah looks like that except mine is much more powerful. It's about 10,000 volts and about 10 amps through anything that conducts electricity.

you put a lil bugger on there, cook it for about 10 seconds, you can smell the stuff all over the house :D

yeah when I was done with the spiders it smelled like we are having BBQ's in the house :D

10000 VOLTS??? isnt the household voltage something like 240?

james_bond_rulez
09-09-2003, 01:20 AM
no what they've done is using loops of wire to get it up to 10,000 volts. it's actually very little power but if you got zapped you hand goes numb for hours.

Strange how these things always seem to be discovered by a professor who just happens to be a specialist in that particular field. Or could it be that the reporter thinks that a teacher from the local high school doesn't sound as impressive as a professor.

Now for that one I'd definitely get up to 10mph - in the opposite direction I think.

Yikes. Thats nuts. I'd hate to fall into that web. shudders

I must say, I really dislike spiders. Fortunately I live in a new apartment building and there doesn't seem to be many spidres round here. I realize the benefits of spiders, though, so I don't mess with em too much. We don't really have any poisonous spiders in my area either, so that helps me not fear them as much as I would otherwise. We have the occasional brown recluse but those are generally found further south from where I live, so thats good. B)

we get the big bastards that run under the sofas, one last year was almost the size of my hand :|

england is becoming a serious breeding ground for the bastards, I hate them, i'd rather have the other bugs than the spiders that keep them down

Lynx could hire out her feet(with various attachments) for catching spiders. There might be money to be made there! Remember no advertising on the Forum. :D

My spider is BACK! :)

I have just seen another large spider, I assume it is the original cos they don't grow that big overnight, and it is almost the same place as I last saw the original one alive. The question is where did the other (squashed) one come from.
Since it was right below the letter box, I think it came in (already squashed) stuck to an item of mail, which would explain why I didn't remember standing on it (phew).

Can't be much of a spider though, I haven't seen it doing any web design yet.

Maybe she's not webbing because she's too distraught over the loss of her mate whom you so carelessly trod upon and didn't even bother to acknowledge.
