Well I just got an invite and it is great but I just have one question:
It says on their site that it is financed by advertising but does that mean it is legal?

yes, spotify obtains licenses for all licensed music listed on its server.

Wow thats really good news!

Does anyone know if there is a way to download the music on there for free. I know that would be breaking the law but there are things on there not on what.

dont think you can download, only stream off their servers, its still quick though.

I also wonder if there is something like 30 day free service and the we need to pay to access the site!

The service is free with ads and you can buy premium service without ads. So far it is restricted to a few countries but this obstacle is very easy to be overrun ;) . It's still in beta phase and I confirm that I don't see any ads. Nice quality, ability to create playlists, but it still needs more content. I can't wait for the official release! :)

You get the odd audio advert. It's ghey as a window.

Spotify looks nice. Streaming can be slow, but that's probably at my end. You need a proxy if not in an allowed country to sign up. Otherwise it works just fine.

It works super fast for me, I like it alot and haven't gotten a single advert yet. You can't DL the files but you can record them with something like Replay Music (http://www.applian.com/replay-music/) easily enough.

^ How is the quality after recording with that? Do the songs sound as good as they do on Spotify?

If you use something nice like Adobe Soundbooth to record, it should sound exactly the same as spotify :)

anyway would be nice when some tools for extracting ogg without recompression will appear
...auto mute or skipping ads etc :D

should do the trick if you're not from UK or any other allowed country..
use a valid postal code from UK and you'll be good to go.. you'll never have to use that site again

It never occurred to me to use a proxy, thanks guys! I've used a site that played any song on demand but the quality was pretty bad. From what I've read, Spotify seems pretty damn cool. Can't wait to try it out.

If you don"t live in a allowed country:

1. use a UK proxy for registration:

- UK = allowed country
- UK = the only one country where you get invites

proxy's working for registration:

http://www.daveproxy.co.uk (http://www.daveproxy.co.uk/)
http://2proxy.info/
http://pproxy.co.uk (http://pproxy.co.uk/)
http://filterpass.net/
etc...

UK postal codes:

SW1A 0AA
SW1A 0PW
SW1A 1AA
SW1A 2AA
SW1A 2AB
SW1A 2HQ

2. you can use spotify with your ip but keep in mind that using a non-UK ip is considered as holidays, and holidays in a external country are only permitted 14 days so don't forget to connect to spotify via a UK proxy every 14 days so you won't loose your account.

I can vouch that 2proxy.info works.

i've tested the 4 proxy's and i can tell you that they're all working for spotify registration ;)

i'm in the US. if i let 14 days go by, will i lose my account immediately, or will there be some sort of message that tells me to login or something about travel/holidays?

If you use a swedish proxy for registration it will give you more music than a UK account.

Just for info.

Is anyone else having trouble sending invites out from Spotify? I've sent two of them and no one's received them yet and my invite number keeps resetting :idunno:

DO NOT ASK ME FOR AN INVITE
DO NOT ASK IN THIS THREAD FOR AN INVITE EITHER

Im no sound buff but it sounds great to me. You can adjust the bitrates and stuff as well so I guess you could do what you wanted

Wow, thank you for that info Detale. I'm going to try it out.

And I've had trouble sending an invite. It said it sent, because it took one away from mine. But there would be a code sitting there saying there is one unused invite. It eventually went through though.

I don't think they will. They currently have a free service and a subscription service, and they use ad's to support the free one.

I am wondering the same thing. The only reason I can think of is that you will get Swedish music that you will not get if you register with a UK IP address. I may be wrong but that would be my guess.

If someone knows it would be great if you could tell us what extra music you get if you sign up using a Swedish proxy

To answer your questions. Go to the Spotify site and read the forums, some music is not allowed in some countries, I am sorry I don't know why. But buried somewhere in those forums on of the admins there mentioned that Sweden has a much lower ratio of music that is not allowed than other countries.

If I find it again, I will come back and post a link for you.

Nothing to do with Bittorrent. Moved to File Sharing section and closed for tidiness.

There are already discussion threads for this client.
