I'd like to know this too. Isn't KVM a keyboard/mouse switch that enables you to control two pcs with the same kb and mouse? How does this apply to dedicated servers?

Unless KVM means something else.

imagine having a keyboard, monitor and mouse for every server in a datacenter? lol.... normally have one per rack of servers...

But how does it benefit us as consumers? Is it to be used for support or something?

hi lads :)

I have kvm my self

it is an extra hardware pice, like separate card
has own IP and power source,
and i presume some http or Java under http

in short words you open KVM in web browser and you can manage your server Up to bios level, you can do what ever you'd like to, even reinstall Server with any Os you'd like to :), stop or reboot server, so far.
Load floppy images, or use http sources with iso images so far.

that exactly what it does :) virtually of course,
and you have access to them via http interface, like an other remote desktop from other dedicated to KVM IP but starting from BIOS level, like you are watching your PC booting up BIOS then windows so far:) and can use all keys like on your PC

it gives you full access to the server even if both your net cards are down.
