View Full Version : Bash The N00b

If you look at the date of my joining this forum and my number of posts plus my lack of avatar etc. you may come to the conclusion that I am somewhat of a newbie to this forum.

Well I really enjoy this forum. I have learned some very good tips and read some very interesting threads. Actually k-lite forum was my first experience with a forum and I would say it was a good experience.

Although...Dun...Dun...Dun...(pause for dramatic effect) I can't get past the newbie bashing. I mean it is incredible the hollier than thou posts I have read on here. Just because we are new doesn't mean we are ignorant. Granted a few rotten apples that can't stop asking the same questions over and over again can make us all look bad but I personally do not consider myself a stupid person(well not extremely so anyway).

I am not so much offended by the newbie grouping and flaming and criticism as I just feel that it is pointless and getting absolutely everyone nowhere. I feel it cloggs up more of this forum than the people asking if mp3's screeching is the third sign of the apocolypse. Also I have seen more than one thread get totally destroyed by the newbie war(threads that weren't even started by newbs or had newb topics). By the time everyone is done bitching the topic is lost forever to anyone reading.

In conclusion I would like to make a special offer to all you long time k-lite forum junkies and hell the moderators can join in too if they would like...

Having a bad day? Have you seen another stupid post that makes you want to gouge your eyes out with a shrimp fork? If so instead of flying off the hook and making an enemy out of someone you don't even know, Why not come to this thread and blast me? Don't worry I am all grown up and I can take it. Go crazy. I'm sure I have made many spelling grammar and punctuation mistakes in this post. Go ahead pick it apart. group me in with all the other noobs. I don't mind. In short Make Me Pay!!!

Brought to you in part by the save the newbs foundation and Grimlock everyones favorite dinobot.

That was a well constructed post and a pleasure to read.
You don't have to volunteer for punchbag and your compassion is to your credit.
I think what starts off these firecracker-strings of insults is the phrasology of the original poster. More often that not, people get their questions answered somewhere in the thread and the vast majority of jibes are not too barbed. Many mundane threads become thriving sources of wit and imo makes the board all the more entertaining.

The only time that noobs get bashed for real is when the post just dumb shit.

Ex. there is a bug with k-lite.
stuff dont work WTF is wrong with you idots.

When a question is properly asked, it si properly answered. With some exceptions.

I have no avatar, am i noob? well kinda.

This is actually a point I would like to expand on, here are some examples of noobs that deserved what they got. *note i was recalling these from memory did not reread may be wrong about them.

I mean you cannot defend that, they were begging for it.

Wheras you see alot of newbies, what are bins, how do i get movies to play on a dvd player. there is usually a rough mention to the search feature, google and what not but the question is answered, and a welcome to the board may even be thrown in.

Actually Hrumph(clears throat and looks around guiltily) you can see if you re-ead the first on your list i did defend that.

Just because u are new to the board doesn't always a noob the only thing u are a noob to is the forum but u can tell a noob by the type of questions they ask and sometimes they try get u to go easy on them by saying their a noob but I always do most times. But why would u volunteer for someone to flame u.

reread - well you did not defend the post just the fact that he had a right to say it. the point of linking to that one was the point that a new member - newbie or not - should not be telling the mods/admins/or other members what this forum should be.

not rebring that topic into this one, do not wanna do that. Just to show precident.

OK. OK. Let's see. It'll go like this. There's no fn spyware in KL. You get one of these :rtfaq: then all :rtfm:. Yes really KL is better than KMD. No it's freeware, you got ripped off! Well then you should'nt be downloading porn (or that kind of porn) on your parents (companies, girlfriend's, friends) computer till you know how to cover your tracks. No you can't get faster speeds than 7Kbps on 56k. Ok if it's so easy write the fucking program yourself smartass. No we don't have the source code. It's a plot just against you, nobody else has to deal with fakes. KL is NOT full of viruses, use an AV n00b!

If an avatar isn't there and nobody sees that it isn't there can it really be said not to exist?

When is a NOOB not a NOOB?

When they have passed initiation and not before!

Doesn't matter how many posts someone has, NOOBness is a state of being, a state of mind.

We can help you but you must be prepared to accept that help ;)

agree. i think someone with 100 posts can still be a noob while someone with 20 isnt.. its how you present yourself and your messages and what you give to the forum..

In my experience, which granted is limited, not everyone is given a hard time.

The people who do tend to be are those who frankly bring it upon themselves by the content or attitude of their post.

For example - what idiot decided on this server. Can any of you pricks tell me ..... I've been waiting 3 seconds will you answer. I would like to use kazaa to download files, is this a good idea. Do you think the RIAA are not very nice.

Or flame baiters and to be honest there are loads of them about. Or more likely some, who are recidivists.

The bottom line is that n00bs don't normally get that much of a hard time. However this board and it's members have a certain feel. One of which is a degree of good natured harshness. The mods know this and allow it, but step in if it goes too far.

The way I see it, the forum is it's members. If people don't like the attitude of the members, this is probably not the place for them. The same goes for any forum.

-abel-

let me start off by introducing myself. i am a long-time moderator of three different forums, and a member of many others. okay, enough introduction.

i have to say that after reviewing the three threads that toddiscool posted up in defense of the flamers, it's easy to come to the conclusion that a lot of members of this forum are just asses. i mean, sure, there are forums where there are some people who can be bitter or condescending.. but from just looking at those three threads, anyone can tell you're just straight-out bashing the people over nothing.

in one of the examples, a new person asks about the server and says that it takes a long time for it to load up for him, expecially with kazaa open and all that. sure, sort of a silly topic, but i was just amazed to see a moderator say something like "get the hell out or buy us a new server." you just let anyone become a mod here?

also, if a no0b is posting a stupid question that has been asked a hundred times, there's no need to have a load of members post on the thread about how stupid that person is. a simple response, like "use the search feature" or "here's the link to a topic like this" would have been better. to me, the people who keep the threads going by insulting people are doing much more harm than the original poster.

i'm not judging this entire forum; i've seen that there are a lot of helpful people here. like jpaul said, if you don't like the attitude of the forum, don't keep going there. don't reply to my post; i won't ever be back here to check for responses.
