I have this version of Windows which I stole on the Internets:

Microsoft.Windows.XP.Professional.Corporate.SP2.Integrated.October.2006.MULTI.IMAGE-ETH0

Which means I haven't done any updates in over 2 years. I tried running Windows updates just to see if I could choose everything but the Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) updates, but I can't get any updates without first running the WGA tool that is prompted.

Sooo... is there a way to update? I keep thinking "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." but I'd like to get my system up to date with SP3.

You could try a program that replaces the key, like JellyBean or use microcrap to change your key . Very easy tho and passes WGA .

Made me think Etho is very good and probably uses a student key , have you tried to update ?

Update let WGA run then just disable next time .Sorry buddie I just reread and easy to correct .

I found this but I don't see how it could help - http://magicaljellybean.com/

I'm just going by the product description is all -

The Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder is a freeware open source utility that retrieves your Product Key (cd key) used to install Windows from your registry. It allows you to print or save your keys for safekeeping.

I can't find this Microcrap thing.

Thanks for that.

The Windiz (http://windizupdate.com/) option appears to be the best option but the project also appears to be abandoned and the plugin won't install. My guess is that the problem isn't on my end, it's that they haven't ported it over for FF3.

CT Update (http://www.vulnerabilityassessment.co.uk/ctupdate.htm) seems good enough, but it uses phrases like "fully update" and "completely update" Windows. I can't take the chance that that include the WGA updates as well.

Windows Updates Downloader (http://www.windowsupdatesdownloader.com/Screenshots.aspx) isn't worth trying since there is no up to date file for SP3.

I'll keep looking though as I'm now confident there will be other solutions.

AutoPatcher looked like another potential solution but it doesn't install service packs. :dabs:

Not sure what else to do.

1. go to windows update site and do the possible installs.
2. when you can't do any more updates cuz it says you haven't an original key, download this http://rapidshare.com/files/129861740/Genuine_Advantage.rar
3. ignore virus reports that some AV do (really, it's genuine)
4. patch your windows
5. reboot
6. go to update center and update your windows ass up.
7. yes, your windows is now "original"

I can't do any at all as I said before.

The very first thing it wants to do before letting me view, download, or install any updates is to download and run a WGA "update".

that's what you must do.
it's my 1.
then replace it with my 2. and you're done !
trust me, nothing will go wrong.

I'm not going to download and run a WGA program on a cracked version of Windows, nor am I going to ignore virus warnings and install those "updates" as well.

well, your problem then. :idunno: good luck finding another working solution, cuz there isn't.
i've done dozens of such installs. including windows 2k3 server which uses the same WGA authentication method.

basically you need a student key that isnt blacklisted. it will still make you download that wga crap. but it will be verified as legit (ill run a test in the morning on my spare pc just to make sure it still works). now i havent done this in about 6 months but it did work last time i tried. feel free to pm me if you want the details.

p.s. the key included with the eth0 releases isnt the student key im speaking of. i know that one is blacklisted.

ANY key works with my method.
try it in a VMWare virtual machine if any doubts arise.

you used reshack to edit the file right? im assuming thats what you mean. its an old work around. and i agree that one does work. but i prefer using a non-blacklisted key. idk it jus seems to save time so you dont have to keep editing it although the edit takes only a few seconds to do. i still use that trick with office tho as i havent found any other way.

Of course it is, just use a program to make it genuine (I have a few) and it updates like normal.

I ordered the SP3 CD for free from the Microsoft website (don't know if they're still giving those away). It installed just fine without being genuine.

If it's Pro Corporate, then you can update everything, even WGA stuff. Since it's corporate, it's meant to be used by a corporation (obviously), and since thousands of people work for corporations, MS doesn't wanna have to deal with all those activations, so they don't require you to activate it. Since there's no activation needed, as long as you have a valid key (which you do, or you wouldn't have been able to install Windows), you can update stuff that requires windows to be validated.

while all that is correct. there is ALOT of the vlk keys that are blacklisted. you can still install just fine but if you try to update with a blacklisted key it wont pass validation. thats what the wga update does is check to make sure the key isnt on the blacklist

I'm adept at just about all things file sharing, or cracking related but this particular problem is new to me. Learning as I go so I'm just being extra cautious as there is a lot of work on this PC that I cannot afford to lose.

I'll check out that link in the PM as well.

Could you link that as well? :ninja:

Here goes nothin.... :fear:

edit - It says its changing the key but it doesn't actually appear to. The program says it has successfully changed the key, but if I exit and reopen it, the "Current Windows Product Key" is the same old key, not the new one.

Yes. Off to reboot now.

Key is still the same. I'm gonna try again. :idunno:

"New key is set!"

Wrong... still the old key. :dabs:

I can't even find a program with that name.

edit - I'm not surprised it doesn't work. Read the reviews for this shit :dabs: - http://www.bestsoftware4download.com/software/t-free-keychanger-windows-edition-download-opauchzb.html

edit2 - OK, I've found a copy of keyfinder 1.4 that has the option to change keys, but it won't let me. I've tried 2 different keygens to no avail and I've tried the key that you PM'd me peat. It just keeps saying

"An error has occurred. This was probably caused by the keying of an invalid number. Please check it and try again.

edit3 - Done. I found an old XP Home key that I had and changed it manually in the registry and crossed my fingers. I'm now all up to date but the visual style I've used since 2005 no longer works though.

I've already done it. ;)

Step 1: Download latest windows xp iso from softarchive or torrents

Step 2: Install it over your current installation or format the c drive and install. It's your choice

Step 3: After installing immediately apply the WGA crack ( I know u don't like it but it works great :))

THX FOR THE LINK, BUT PLEASE READ THE RULES

Step 4: Put automatic updates to "Notify me but don't automatically install or download updates"

Step 5: After some time few updates will come. In those updates WGA will be there. Please don't download that one and set the option to "Don't notify me again about this update".

Step 6: After that you are good to go. You can download all the updates you want :)
