If you are looking specifically for war games

Medal of Honor :Allied Assault
Brothers In Arms Road to Hill 30

If just FPS then
Halo,Soldier of Fortune,No one Lives Forever,Half Life,Fear and System Shock are all kind of in the genre and all excellent games

It would help to know exactly which video card you have.
Also you can check if anything will run on your system here

Yep yep , there's a lot good games for older pc's as well . The History Channel: Civil War Secret Missions is a great game . Weapons suck but its the stealth mode that keep you coming back for more . :)

Any good tracker will have the old games , obviously keeping a good ratio with the old games is trial and error .

If you wnt to keep a good ratio on old games then use underground gamer
specialises in games pre-2000

-C&C red alert series
-Deus Ex
-Quake, Quake II
-Starcraft
-Fallout, Fallout 2
-Half Life, HL Opposing Force, HL Blueshift
-Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

The ones I mentioned are mainstream classics that have been generally rated very good. Depending on what genre of games you like, we could be more specific.

-GTA Vice City could possibly work. I know it runs alot smoother than GTA3, but then again this game is much newer than the other games I mentioned, and might lag depending on your card.

If you don't have a good laptop, then get another one. :D
Harsh it may be sounding to you but that's the only way I could think of right now to fix your problem, especially if your computer is ancient.

Nobody has suggested Age of Empires II and its Expansion. What has this world come to?

-KotOR I + II (II > I, many will disagree, but that's just how I feel)
-Max Payne I + II (I > II)
-Half Life (shouldn't be missed, most likely you already played it)
-No One Lives Forever I + II (Monolith's finest)
-Neverwinter Nights + Expansions (OK games)
-Unreal Tournament (EPIC's masterpiece)
-FreeSpace 2 (fantastic sim)
-Grim Fandago (what happened to you LA? I cry late in my bed sometimes)
-Mafia (I like GTA games more, but it's a classic)
-Freedom Fighters (many people recommend this game, I somewhat dislike it, but shouldn't be missed anyway)
-Total Annihilation (no one EVER mentions it)
-Far Cry (not sure if you can run this, brilliant, but somewhat difficult game)
-Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (it's Sid Meier, what else do you need)
-Thief: The Dark Project + Thief 2 (AVOID 3 at all costs)
-Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (brilliant game, better than JA, some people still play MP)
-Jedi Academy
-Homeworld + Expansion (I love Relic!)
-Serious Sam: The First Encounter (awesome FPS)
-Shogun: Total War (and Rome!) (if it wasn't for Total War I don't know where I would be today)
