View Full Version : The Death of P2P

I am super content with the trackers I am on.

I can generally find any content that I want!
Getting into a few other sites would be nice, like FSC. I enjoy being around other technologically apt individuals. If I would hang out with any users in REAL life, I would want to hang out with people who have interests off of the computer as well. Apparently FSC has some bomb chefs... a major plus. This leads to my point. Real Life =/= Torrenting.

Honestly, I am really starting to not want to be around a lot of users. They do nothing but torrent; that actually sucks. Torrenting is a means to supplement the quality of your real life, only catch is that so many users don't have one aside from this. I wish p2p could be about friends giving friends things that they want, and then socializing about non-torrenting items. Endless forums of "I've downloaded more than you" and "I have 82 seedboxes" are driving me crazy; are we really that obtuse?

This whole sense of sacrificing time from offline life in order to be successful online makes me feel like I'm wasting my time, almost guilty to be on the computer as much as I already am. Leveling, trolling, & "who has a bigger/faster seedbox" has killed true peer-to-peer. Can we seriously be friends again and cut the crap?

I have no idea where I was going with this, but I kind of miss the Napster days 9 years ago. I miss OiNK and super old BCG days when all my friends would upload as hard as possible to get each other invites so we could start trading music and find bands worth going to their shows together. As a user on FST, I'm here because we have something in common. Makes me sad that I only feel like we're here to rip each other off and be done. Can you seriously not remember that there is a person on the other side of all of these posts?

RIP

I just use file sharing to steal files.

It did start out like that .. Music sharing .. I would download some stuff and then exchange with others through LAN or Intranet ..
Actually i would give up every site just to bring back those napster days .. Simple click and download files .. Simple enuff FTP site links for movies n all ..
Stealing anything couldnt have been more easier than that ..

People do that cuz they have time on their hands not because they wanna be sucessfull online .. thats just retarded

Furthermore, as I read on, most of the points are NOT connected to your Topic...just my 2 cents, maybe U just got a license to drink , since U are 21. and I am much older..........LMAO

Then dump your trackers and use Soulseek. It's the same thing and was created by the same fellow.

^ pretty much have done so .. The only tracker i use is TheGft and that too cuz its ratio free .. For music i pretty much use russian RS sites ..

I didnt knw soulseek was created by the same guy  .. i thght that guy teamed up with some recording studios to create a legalised version of Napster .. Wasnt there a TV interview on this guy or something?

@skizo --> bty have u used soulseek on iphone? Is it any good?

so the only reason you uploaded on trackers was to get invites to trade to get into other trackers?

that may not be how you meant that line, but thats how i read it.

^ What he meant was that they uploaded like hell so that they can earn invites to invite their other friends ..

Shawn Fanning is the guy who created Napster and went on to do some other projects including the legal pay site with the same name. Nir Arbel was one of Napsters primary programmers and started Soulseek after the close of Napster.

As for iSlsk, yes, I've used it. It's decent I guess, but it's pretty clunky as well. I never really use it unless I'm looking for a song on the go.

Thus, I'd recommend dTunes to download music on the iPhone.

ok well now on BCG its even easier to get an invite than it was before, so what is his problem lol

Thanks ..I wasnt aware of the info u posted I confused the creator with the programmer ..
I will give dTunes a try then ..
bty isnt it too early for u to be up rite now?or u didnt sleep at all?

@Stoi - I doubt he has a problem with BCG .. Its gotta do more with the new avatar whole P2P thing has taken lately ...
According to op the whole P2P sytem should be a more social experience .. apparently the virtual socializing was more fun to him than in reality .. :emo:

Most of you understood this post incorrectly, somewhat reaffirming what I was saying.

All we do around here is give each other crap, trying to keep people out of other sites yet at the same time trying to get into other sites ourselves. No, this wasn't plug for FSC, I was making the point that at least a few trackers seem to have people that pursue outside interests. Perhaps I am wrong.

And Stoi, no. I've been playing video games for 18 years back to the DOS days. I'm saying that friends and I wanted on so bad that we could all play more games together, and that we all helped each other out. Nobody wants to help anybody anymore it seems like. Every single request thread gets filled with 100 responses of why someone shouldn't have it before someone says that they should. Most people only do GA's because they want something back in return.

Torrenting is a means to supplement the quality of your real life

I just use file sharing to steal files.

But for what? Most people on here just want to fill their hard drives with endless crap, watch movies and porn by themselves because they have no girlfriends, then get back on forums and bash other people. I'm not saying that is you, but what a life for some others... All I'm saying is that we should focus on what we have in common and stop trying to step on each other's heads constantly.

Just leech the shit you want and live your life. Stop assuming shit about the people you meet on the web and more importantly, stop caring what other people are doing.

After reading that FSC giveaway thread I have to say that it sums up perfectly what the private bt community comes down to, a circle jerk of trusted friends on the inside and a bunch of illiterate morons trying to get in somehow. Then, somewhere in the middle is the average user who doesn't post much at all, is friends only with his inviter and downloads what he wants without saying a peep. I don't really care about sharing files and I don't really care about the people I've met in the past couple of years. I realized it was all b.s. a few months ago and haven't looked back since, except to wonder why I wasn't one of those average/middle group users who kept his mouth shut and his harddrive full.

Peace.

Not all if implying that?

^^^^ This. Hahaha, basically re-worded my point.

To the flamers, could you guys prove my point a bit more? If it makes you feel good about yourselves, more power to you. The real joke is how true colors are showing just based on the responses being posted. I mean, be whoever you want to be, but being a dick to everybody then expecting something nice in return makes no sense. Unfortunately this is the #1 practice on FST.

Just because you are disillusioned doesn't mean the end of p2p, unless you have the most massive God complex in the community (tough to do though).
There are so many who take this whole thing so seriously, ffs it's just a hobby. If your not having fun it truly is time to pack up your bat and ball and go home.
I get the very strong impression that the bit torrent community is like some kind of virtual popularity contest, where you have the nerds in the corner saying the whole thing is rigged or a sham or just a nice tight little circle for the 'in' crowd. Damn! the whole thing sounds so pathetic. Grow some balls, sit back relax, enjoy the communities you are in laugh and talk to friends on irc, pm, in forums or just get teh filez, whatever spins your wheels but seriously this kind of poast is just sad, truly sad. If it's not fun don't do it man............

I agree with you as well! I have a ton of fun and enjoy myself daily and I know a lot of other users do too. What I'm not for is what you mentioned about the popularity contests, etc.

We don't need to beat each other down constantly, let's be done with this hate!

No, no it isn't. Not at all.

You're just spending the bulk of your time here in the Bittard Bittorrent section.

do you realize that most of the people "being dicks" are doing it because you're extremely whiny like a little kid who just got his ball stolen? you didn't get what you want and you arent socially inept enough to even make e-friends that trust you a little so you came here and called it "The Death of P2P". also i know i dont come here just to be a dick and then expect something, i actually come here to fuck around and if someone is being whiny i'll tell them like it is, sorry if you dont take insults so well.

oh snap, i see what you did there, you called it the "bittard" section. jesus, that gets funnier each time one of you does it... or not. get over yourself.

do i get more infractions now for not getting along with you? because i'll be completely honest again, i dont like you, never have and i never will. you're annoying and condescending and it gets old very fast.

It seems you have no understanding whatsoever of what the BT community is, or any community whatsoever, judging by your statement. :)

Furthermore, this isn't the BT community as a whole, it is simply the FSC community, who wish to give an opportunity in a place that isn't limited to one tracker's members. I also think it's funny how you said a big part of the community is "morons" who aren't in yet.. makes a lot of sense...

Anyway, I think you should expand that whole "mouth shut harddrive full" outlook, on forums like these for example, since I think something gets lost in translation between your brain and your fingers typing up things. :naughty:
