I have started using uTorrent WebUI (for seedbox purposes)..
But it is definitely hard to know :
[1] How to upload files from PC to the server.
[2] How to create a new torrent from the files downloaded on the server.

Is there no purpose to uTorrent WebUI than using existing torrents ONLY?
[I have had really hard time googling this stuff, but to no avail]

Help me out plz.!

1. you can upload the files to the server by FTP. 2. Im not sure but you cant create the torrent with WebUi. you must have another program to do it.

1. You need to do that through FTP

2. You need to use NX or something to access the seedbox remotely in order to use the actual utorrent program

You use webui in order to check on your files and also you can upload torrent files from the computer you are on so the seedbox will start downloading them

Like the others have said webgui is just their for you to lightly manage and keep tabs of your torrents. For anything else you probably should use ftp and vnc for more complicated task like uploading. Also, their are sites out there that help you create torrents without going the vnc route. Poke around at FsF to see what you can find about that.

if your clever with PHP you could make a script to create .torrent files .. its only metadata stored as a bencoded dictionary .. nothing overly complicated that you couldnt figure out ... or i bet someones made a php file of sorts already for that considering how big bittorrent has become ...

then it would just be a case of getting urself a php engine if you dont have one already .. theres a standalone php test platform (forgot the name now google it lol) which uses very little resources and can process php pages without the need for a full blown webserver

If you meant poking around at FsF,
I have meta-searched the whole website earlier, couldn't find a single thing!
Still I couldn't get a proper tutorial anywhere:frusty:

1.For download and upload to server user ftp access
2. for creating a new torrent you have to connect to the server through vnc/nx client and use the utorrent from there...
hope can be useful

You think WebUI is hard, wait until you try rTorrent :P

Well, to defined webui you can read the read me file - you might need to retart the utorrent.
for using FTP - you need to serch for FTP server and install it on your seedbox and then you will have access from your PC to the seedbox.
For creating torrent file - for each torrent site you need the specific site information for announce

Well, I have the FTP access and the server space is shared with other users.
Suppose I have downloaded a 5 GB file over there (on the seedbox) and need to seed it to some private tracker (i know announce url and all)..
Do I really need to download those 5 GBs on my HD create a torrent, and upload it to webui to seed.(Making the seedbox a real waste of time, denying the whole purpose of using it in the first place? Coz this is what the seedbox provider replied !!)

I have created 100s of torrents on private trackers, but this is my first time with WebUI.

I use WINDOWS XP (not linux :P)

Could you share or even hint me:dabs:

man you cannot create torrents with webui...just like that
for that you have to connect directly with remote client to be able to use utorrent...and from there you know how to make a torrent...
as for the rtorrent, god help us all
cheers

See, I downloaded NX Client for Windows.
I don't know how to get it to work. It asks for server port to connect, which I don't know.
Can someone tell me how to configure it to get to my seedbox?!

Here are the urls for WebUI and FTP access:

Primary µTorrent Url:
µTorrent Url: http://gig4.myftp.org:81/gui
or
http://gig4.getbyte2u.com:81/gui

Secondary µTorrent Url (Backup):
µTorrent Url: http://91.121.79.53:81/gui

Ftp Url: ftp://gig4.myftp.org
or
ftp://91.121.79.53 (Backup)
or
ftp://gig4.getbyte2u.com

I posted the ftp access url above highlighted in red (except the WebUI urls in blue)

Ftp Url: ftp://gig4.myftp.org

ftp://91.121.79.53 (Backup)
or
ftp://gig4.getbyte2u.com

I login there and can see all the downloaded folders and files (Even of other users :P)

So have I got server access??
:fst: I liked your helping nature...I appreciate if you make things work for me.

We are talking about something like a remote desktop control. You have to physically control the server. An ftp is simply for putting stuff on the server and taking stuff off.

Is it a software to download? If yes, name it and let me know how to configure it, or let me to some website/tutorial.

OR

Can you tell me what thing should I ask seedbox's customer service for?

Thanks guys.!

Is it a software to download?
Do you mean remote desktop control or what?

There are such programs (like NX), but they are useless if the server doesn't support it.

For the NX the server port is usually 21 and you have to set it to GNOME. But as said before if the server dosnt support it you are shit out of luck

I started NX, configured "Unix - GNOME"
Host: ftp://gig4.myftp.org Port 21

This is the detail of Connection Error I received while loggin in with it:

NX> 203 NXSSH running with pid: 2444
NX> 285 Enabling check on switch command
NX> 285 Enabling skip of SSH config files
NX> 285 Setting the preferred NX options
ssh: connect to host ftp://gig4.myftp.org port 21: Connection timed out

Looks like the server doesn't support remote client. Would it be worth trying some other client?:frusty:

Basically there's no way you can do it.

When you purchased the seedbox, all you were given was the uTorrent WebUI URL and the FTP.

In short this means there is no way you can create a torrent, no matter what software you download.

If you already have a torrent file and just want to change the tracker url, just use maketorrent or BEncode on your home pc. Otherwise you'll need some other type of access to the server besides ftp or webui.

You can always use torrenteditor.com...
Thanks a lot! It successfully created new torrent for uploading through WebUI. That's a handy website.

Here's what I did:

(1) Got the actual torrent through which I had downloaded on the seedbox

(2) Used torrenteditor.com to edit its announce url, and saved the new torrent [NOTE: One should NOT change ANYTHING else, other than the announce url of the tracker, and there should be only one tracker url]

(3) Logged in to seedbox's uTorrent WebUI, browsed and uploaded the new torrent saved in step 2.

(4) Torrent automatically got hash checked and started seeding.

Thanks Nemrod and all FST guys who let me know that I am a total n00b, and I need to learn all those ftp and server things ;)

BTW... Can anyone tell how can we remove a couple of the files in the torrent while editing it, to prevent downloading them?!
