View Full Version : Do you wear protection?

What are the various kinds of protection you use while torrenting. I do it completely unprotected. I know I should get some protection, but I don't know where to look. I can't go abstinent.

Noone needs it in sweden atm, but new laws might be coming in 1 april... :( (the law is insane, letting corparations blackmail ppl and act police. It's horrible :'( )

EDIT:

IF you mean anti-virus:

I don't use it, I use common sense and ubuntu most of the time.

all kinds. protection is protection, ya know?

oh please elaborate. I the only thing that keeps me from doing it excessively is the risk involved. I'm a giver by nature. I'm sure 90% of others feel the same way. The other 10% are idiot man-whores.

Ok, a seedbox might be worth the money. where are the more secure places to buy one? I heard Sweden is STD-free (sauce (http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/p-do-you-wear-protection-post3096018/postcount9)). Chicks there are pretty hot, too.

vic, I'm really not worried at all about (computer) viruses (viri, lol). The MPAA aren't kittens or hot chicks that give free blow jobs, per say.

anti-virus/anti-spyware?

Well I haven't gotten any "virus" yet

OT: I do use Comodo Firewall Pro (it's free and perfect and much more than a regular firewall, as it keeps an eye on system changes as well), where I block annoying IPs/ranges manually... and if I felt I needed any kind of Antivirus, I would probably go with the free version of Comodo Internet Security.

But that's not keeping me safe from authorities, which I feel this topic is about. I have used IP blockers in the past and they all have the same thing in common. They block far to many legit IPs.

well that's also got to do with the private secure trackers.

of course that in TL/What/SCT or any other tracker with 20000 users and more, it is a lot dangerous.

the real security is not on the site's end, it is at the client's workstation.

as in, not leaving traces of your downloads?
well, your stats are always recorded on the tracker, so does your IP.
your ISP also keeps a record, but only of the amount of traffic registered, and which protocols were used, though this can be tricked, being the principle the same as avoiding TS.
on your end: encrypted HDDs. Truecrypt is a valuable tool if you are paranoid.

I like it hard and fast too, so using something that makes going up and down go smoother helps. A seedbox is a great way to go to stay safe and efficient.

I don't use any protection. I don't think it is required for two reasons. One, the anti-piracy laws are not too strictly enforced in my country. Secondly, I download only from private trackers, and that too, old material. Old that is more than 6 months old material.

Seedbox/FTP, Newsgroups via SSL and a Doritos bag with a rubber band.
 They never break.

as in, not leaving traces of your downloads? well, your stats are always recorded on the tracker, so does your IP.
I don't think one should be as worried about the tracker divulging your information as one should be about malevolent peers logging what you send to and receive from them. It's should be much easier for AP organizations to log information about thousands of peers on a private tracker than to actually take the tracker down.
Seedboxes provide an excellent layer of anonymity, but as far as I know, there is no reason why those aforementioned peers couldn't attack the hoster of your seedbox and attain your personal information that way.

So, what are the safest places to host your seedbox? If there is a thread in the seedbox subforum that covers this, let me know.

your ISP also keeps a record, but only of the amount of traffic registered, and which protocols were used, though this can be tricked, being the principle the same as avoiding TS.
I'm aware of the encryption available in uTorrent, and do use it. What does TS mean?

on your end: encrypted HDDs. Truecrypt is a valuable tool if you are paranoid.

You pay $100 dollars a year so you can torrent files risk-free? That doesn't sound too bad.. you've paid that off if you just pirate Crysis and Call of Duty 5 .

How are the speeds? Do they bottleneck your connection?

I heard from people using public torrents that they received complaints concerning the use of their server.
Logging firms hired by EA for example seem to go through public torrents and contact abuse department.

Relakks.com is a solution, but not everyone gets good speeds and their service lvl takes some days to answer, if you encounter problems...

strongvpn.com also offers openvpn with 2048 encryption...

Seedboxes are very fine, but make sure you choose the right one, that doessn't log your information or resides in a country that hands over your info if a courtorder is present...
