Cell phone antennas, boosters, amps, or repeaters?

Has anyone had any experience with a cell phone booster? I've recently moved and I barely get any signal in my new place so I'm thinking of investing in one... er rather need to.

I've been poking around online and figure I'll need to spend a couple hundred bucks, but I want to make sure I get the most bang for my buck obviously.

I'm in an apartment so any sort of roof mounted device is out of the question, though I suppose I could mount something outside my back door. I've found several that look similar to a wireless modem but they look rather cheap at a glance.

Any suggestions? Any experience?
