hi im using ntl 150k broadband modem (england) im jus wondering wat speed dl's people are getting i get a top speed of around 20kbs

im asking cos i see people moaning about only getting 300kbs ????? wat the hell connection do you have to get that id love it :D

basically does anyone know if the speed im getting is good or bad for the conn ive got

i get round 70Kb/s (i have 512k cable). u can get up2 2Mb connections which wud b bout 250k?

I usually get 300-500KB/s with 576/288Kbps ADSL. I tweaked my connection though with the aid of http://www.speedguide.net.

20 is about right for your connection. It's 8 bits to a byte so just take the 150 and divide by 8 and that should be your maximum.

When i first got my adsl i had around 155 kbps, then it dropped to 145 kbps, and thats where it stays around now. i get about 192 kb upload :/ which is like 15-16 kbps.
On my download if i sources are good i get about 95-110 kbps on movie downloads. i dont download games on kazaa cause there mostly virus infected.
Movies are usually renamed and that all i have to worry about. That or blank.

depends on what your downloading and where from.
If you have NEVER seen over 20kb/s.. Like EVER on anything.. Then it might be an incorrect setting..hardware setup.. or firewall conflict.

We only have two choices for ISP&#39;s here and this one is the fastest.I was with the other one a couple of years ago and it was fine until I tried this one,I will never go back to the other.

sry m8 i dont believe you on this one. that is some awsome tweaking if it was possible to fool ur isp into giving you that much bandwidth and if that was true you would have greater than a 2mb adsl connection and the only UK company that does that is bulldog ADSL the company i am with and then you have to be within 6 miles or the base station indside central london.

adsl isnt like cable, the signal degrades a lot quicker than that of cable so you have to be closer to the base station/exchange to get the speeds your qouting

i live in chicago, so i&#39;m not sure about european stuff. but i have just basic cable, and my surf speed is 2.4 megabytes / sec. my dl speed is around 400 kb/s highest

Yes, I am living the UK (Britain) but I think that my connection-service is un-capped. The ISP is Gio Internet - http://www.giointernet.com, but after tweaking my connection settings, I received a drastic speed increase.

There is no way u can tweak a bog standard 512/256 adsl connection to have the download speeds you have mentioned without hacking your isp to give u more bandwidth.

THEN you would have to live really really close to your exchange to achieve those speeds as i said b4 the adsl signal degrades faster than cable so you need to live within about 6miles of the nearest enabled exchange. AND then you would need to live near london as bulldog is the only company that offers adsl anywhere near the speeds you say you get and you only get those speeds if you live in central london.

So if there is some big secret on how you have done this i would love to know plz send me a pm and we can discuss this further other than that i think you have swapped ur gullet pipe for ur ass pipe cos either way your talking outta your ass or talking shit.

Speed required for 300-500kbps = 2.5meg(approx) to 4meg(approx)

and since you have stated you get 500kbps that means you have a 4meg connection. Who are your adsl providers anyway??? only name that provides 4meg is bulldogdsl
