Hey you guys are the best for knowledge so what is the answer to the question above?

About 400 Mhz CPU and 128 MB ram.

It will play on slower systems, but usually not without audio synchronisation problems and choppy video playback.

I agree pretty much on those specs, but thats not running xp (use win 98 or linux or maybe win 2000 instead) with xp you'd probably need about a 700 - 800 MHz and about 256MB ram

Big resolution (640 X ***)+ You'll need 700mhz-1ghz+

A Lower resolution (500 X ***)+ You'll need 400mhz+

And a tip for playing divx movies on lower cpu's

What i found is that when i played a movie on 800x600 it was slow but when i played it on 1024x740 it went smoother.

if you have a CPU that falls below the recommended specs for DivX, you could get an Mpeg4/DivX decoder card (it's called the Sigma X-Card, i believe) which should be able to play Mpeg4 with a slow CPU. it's not really very useful for PCs with fast CPUs, but for old computers it does have a niche.

may have to look into that, use an old machine that's sitting in the corner doing nothing ot play divXs
