I didnt write this only amended a few things.
Thought this would be a good thing for people who want to try it before buying a premium provider with bigger retention.

Finding free usenet servers is no problem, finding servers that allow and provide binaries newsgroups is very difficult indeed. At least it was. This is because a lot of servers where you normally would need a paid subscription are now testing for the new IPv6 protocol. Now who do you think is needed to do these tests? That’s right! We are! Now before we get started let’s set some things straight:

In this post you will find information on IPv6, tunnels, free usenet servers who work with IPv6 and the information on how to configurate these servers in GrabIt, Newsleech, AltBinz or any other usenet downloading software
You will not find information on free binaries usenet servers using IPv4, for that look here (http://clnet.nl/blog/2008/07/finding-and-using-free-usenetservers-the-truth-about-free-servers/)
Using usenet you will be able to download movies, games and software with the speed of your internet connection (max 20 mbits) for free, if you do not know anything about this but you are interested in using this great free service you should first learn some basics here (http://www.binaries4all.com/), you will find everything you’ll need to know over there

What is IPv6?

Internet protocol Version 6 (IPv6) is the continuator of Internet protocol Version 4 (IPv4). It has been developed because of the restrictions and as a remedy for shortcomings of IPv4. Shortage to available IP-nummers provides an enormous problem for IPv4: there are 4 billion IPv4-addresses available and roughly speaking in 2022, all available addresses would be in use. Because of this a new structure is necessary, so that the unused address ranges can again be used. IPv4 has 4 × 109 addresses, whereas IPv6 has space for 3,4 × 1038 addresses. For each earthling there are approximately 50,000 quadriljoen IPv6-addresses available.
Beside a large address range IPv6 offers some other improvements:

Better routing and network-autoconfiguration
NAT is not needed anymore
Data security on IP-level
Support for mobile nodes

Free IPv6 servers that are available at the moment:

Eweka
Adress: news.ipv6.eweka.nl
Port: 119
Connections: 20
Speed: 20mbit
username: none
Pass: none
retention: 107 days

newszilla
Adress: newszilla6.xs4all.nl
Port: 119
Connections: 3
Speed: 150 kb/s
username: geen
Pass: geen
retention: 18 days

Tunnel Providers:

There are probably more reliable tunnel providers than listed, but I will explain how to use the following servers:
Hurricane
http://tunnelbroker.net/

Hurricane how-to:
This works for XP system (SP3) with newsleecher and with Grabit (both only tested with eweka IPv6)
choose in advance which leecher you will be using (Grabit (http://www.shemes.com/) and Altbinz (http://www.altbinz.nl/programma%20altbinz/altbinz0.25.exe) are free)
Download and install your preferred usenet software and add new servers using the following configuration:
Server adress:127.0.0.1, postage: 1119, server nickname: ipv6 Eweka, connections: 4 (10 gives me a maximum speed of 1200kbit/s ), priority: 1
server address: 127.0.0.1, postage: 1118, server nickname: ipv6 Newszilla6, connections: 3, prio: 1

Go to: http://tunnelbroker.net and register (top left)
fills out your data and if you don’t want to fill out your real personal data in: churchstreet in ukraine also works :p ( however be sure to use a correct mail address as you will need it later on)
You’ll soon receive a confirmation e-mail
Login at the Hurrican website.
Later on you will need you current IP-address, this can be found at: whatismyip.com (http://www.whatismyip.com/)
only copy the IP address and click ” Create regular Tunnel” (top left at http://tunnelbroker.net) and paste your IP address in the box which is given and click the server who is near you. After hitting submit you should see “O.K.: Your tunnel has been allocated”
next click tunnel details, where we will be seeing the information we will need in the next few steps
Choose your operating system and click “show config”
copy the lines you see and paste them in a new file using notepad
add the following lines to the file:

netsh interface portproxy add v4tov6 listenport=1119 connectaddress=news.ipv6.eweka.nl connectport=119
netsh interface portproxy add v4tov6 listenport=1118 connectaddress=newszilla6.xs4all.nl connectport=119
netsh interface portproxy add v4tov6 listenport=1120 connectaddress=reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl connectport=119

and then add the following lines depending on your software and installation location:

cd C:\Program Files\NewsLeecher\
newsLeecher.exe
or
cd C:\Program Files\Grabit\
Grabit.exe

save this file as IPv6tunnel.bat in the folder IPv6tunnel on C:\ disk
double-click on the .bat file you just created and newsleecher (or other software you choose and filled out in .bat file) is started.
Grab an .nzb file and start downloading!
remember to start your software using the .bat file everytime you want to use this method!

F.A.Q

How do I find out IPv6 is working for me?
Go to http://www.whatismyipv6.net/ and find out
When trying to install IPv6 via: “Open a cmd.exe window –> Type: “netsh interface ipv6 install” and press enter” I get the following error: “0×800704b8 installation error”.
In command prompt (start>execute>cmd) type the following and hit enter:
esentutl /g %windir%/security/Database/secedit.sdb
you’ll receive this reply “database is not up-to-date”

then type (and hit enter):
esentutl /r %windir%/security/Database/secedit.sdb
you’ll receive this reply “Operation terminated with error -1003 (JET_errInvalidParamater, Invalid API paramater)“
then type (and hit enter):
esentutl /p %windir%/security/Database/secedit.sdb
Now you’ll see a lot of text and IPv6 install should work without the error above.
My Command prompt immediately closes?
instead of using (start>execute>cmd) use (start>execute>cmd/k)
Other tips & tricks:
make sure your windows firewall is disabled.
All servers will work in the Netherlands for sure and most of them will work in most big european countries: Germany, France, Poland, Spain, Italy, Greece, Norway, Finland, Sweden, UK and Turkey. I don’t know for other countries, but it will probably also work. If so, please let me know in the comments!

Well you can start at the IPv6 portal and use Freenet as you IPv6 server.

http://go6.net/

and then use SABnzbd to use IPv6 no bullshit setup.

http://www.sabnzbd.org/

Here's a guide I wrote for another forum.

This is written entirely by me, no copy and paste, except the quoted parts :loll:. So bear with me.

What Are Newsgroups?

Usenet newsgroups have existed for quite a while and were originally meant as a place for discussions using text messages. The name of the Usenet newsgroup shows the subject discussed in that specific group. However, Usenet newsgroups can also be used for posting binaries (a general term for encoded data, like programs or music), which has become much more popular with the introduction of broadband connections to the Internet. You can recognize a binary Usenet newsgroup by the word binaries in the name of the group, for example alt.binaries.freeware.

Newsgroups (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsgroup)
Usenet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet)

What is a NZB?

NZB files are one of the latest developments on Usenet to make downloading a lot easier. Normally you have to download all headers from a news group which can take a lot of time. Another possibility would be to perform a XPAT search but this causes a heavy load on the news server, especially with large posts.

But using a NZB file has a great advantage: downloading posts without updating headers or performing a XPAT search!

Just download a NZB file, import it in your favorite news reader and start downloading.

To understand how NZB files work, I will first explain something about posts on Usenet.

Every file on Usenet is split up into many separate parts. These parts are called articles
and are combined again to one file by your newsreader after downloading. Each article has
a unique number, the so called message ID. With this number your newsreader knows exactly
which file to download, because there is only one file with the same number.

A NZB file is a collection of message ID’s of the files the NZB has been made for. These
message ID’s are combined in a text file with the extension .nzb. I you have this .nzb
file, import it in your newsreader and start downloading at once.

NZB (http://www.binaries4all.com/nzb/)

What are good newsgroups providers?

Giganews (Pay for service) (http://www.giganews.com/)

Astraweb (Pay for service) (http://www.news.astraweb.com/)

Newsdemon (http://www.newsdemon.com/)
Notes: if your in college Newsdemon I believe offers it for free.

All of these providers have a great TRIAL system, and you can use Credit Card or PayPal

What are PAR's and how to I repair thenm?

PAR version 2.0 (PAR2) is the more efficient successor of PAR (PAR1). You can use PAR2 to check whether your downloaded files were received completely and correctly and you can repair any missing or corrupt files if necessary! PAR2 divides a RAR set into 'blocks' so that the downloader can see how many blocks are missing. After that he can download that number of PAR2 blocks for reparation.

QuickPar Homepage (http://www.quickpar.org.uk/Download.htm)

QuckPar Tutorial (http://www.binaries4all.com/quickpar/)

THE GUiDE

You will need to travel to Go6.net (http://go6.net/)

When you visit go6 you will know if you need to download a client or not, it will say "You are using IPxx from: xx.xx.xxx.xx"

http://pic.leech.it/i/ad1c4/f4c2cd6newsgroups.png (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=f4c2cd6newsgroups.png)

If your using IPv4, then you will need to grab the client.

Next go ahead and signup, you will get a free account and a server to use. (broker.freenet6.net)

Click applications, downloads, and pick you Installer of Gateway6 Client, there are many to choose from. I picked Gateway6 6.0-BETA4.

Install the client, and depeding on your network you have it will isntall another network connection called 'local area connection 2' or something similar. As you can see in my screenshots I've decided to re-name my connection to IPv6.

YOU must enable ICS for this to work

To enable ICS on a network connection:

In Control Panel, double-click Network and Dial-Up Connections.

Right-click the connection you want to share, and then click Properties.

Click the Sharing tab, and then click to select the Enable Internet Connection Sharing for this connection check box.

If the connection you are sharing is a Dial-up connection and you want the connection to dial automatically when another computer on your home network attempts to use external resources, click to select the Enable on-demand dialing check box.

NOTE: To enable ICS in Windows, you must have administrative rights.

IMPORTANT: You should not use this feature on a computer running DNS server or DHCP server or a Windows domain controller. When you enable ICS, the network adapter connected to the home or small office network is given a new static IP address configuration. Existing TCP/IP connections on the CS computer are lost and need to be re-established.

I have a wirless pci card and a ethernet card. I have to share my Wirelss card with the Tunnel that we just created when we install the Gateway6 client. (I think this would hold true if you have and ethernet card you connect to the internet with, just share your ethernet card with the tunnel.)

http://pic.leech.it/i/543b2/fe5bd6f9newsgroups.png (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=fe5bd6f9newsgroups.png)

Right click on you internet connection, click Advanced: and you should see this:

http://pic.leech.it/i/2dec0/ee34b6aanewsgroups.png (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=ee34b6aanewsgroups.png)

Tick, Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection. And Then select the Hexago Virtual Tunnel connection.

(leave unticked 'allow other network users to control or disable the share internet connetion'.)

http://pic.leech.it/i/3bdaf/eb71ecd3newsgroups.png (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=eb71ecd3newsgroups.png)

Cick OK, and you might have to reboot your computer, but I would do it just to be safe.

After reboot, we need to start the Gateway6 Client Utility.

http://pic.leech.it/i/13713/7df4cdf2newsgroups.png (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=7df4cdf2newsgroups.png)

Now will have to fill in the appropiate information, from the email you got from go6.net. Connect using the following credentials: Username Password and the server you got from the email.

Now click connect: It will take a minute or two to connect.

Click status after connect and you should see some info.

http://pic.leech.it/i/3ed14/59a2737newsgroups.png (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=59a2737newsgroups.png)

Travel back to Go6.net (http://go6.net/) and you should see: "You are using IPv6 from: xxxx:xxx:xxx:x::xxx"

http://pic.leech.it/i/108d0/9a9acc9cnewsgroups.png (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=9a9acc9cnewsgroups.png)

Go here: Kame.net (http://www.kame.net/) If the turtle is flaping it's wings you are TRULY on IPv6.

If you can't connect you might have to change your tunnel setup in the advanced tab in the Gateway 6 client. Now, since we have IPv6 and the tunnel setup, onto the NZB client, SABnzbd.

It runs in Firefox (I've seen it can run in Opera and IE, but I've not tested it)

SABnzbd (http://www.sabnzbd.org/)

Grab it and instal it.

Start the client and Firefox will open, you might need change ports also.

Example:

SABnzbd needs a free tcp/ip port for its internal web server.
Port 8080 on localhost was tried , but it is not available.
Some other software uses the port or SABnzbd is already running.

Please restart SABnzbd with a different port number.

Press Startkey+R and type the line (example):
"C:\Program Files\SABnzbd\SABnzbd.exe" --server localhost:8081

If you get this error message again, please try a different number.

Program did not start!

If this is the case above navigate to: C:\Documents and Settings\user of computer\Local Settings\Application Data\sabnzbd

Open, sabnzbd.ini and change to the port to whatever you have free or whatever you like.

I change mine from 8080 to 8081.

(SABnzbd I found out if you close your browser you will need to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to stop it)

And yes there are GUI's available for SAB on the homepage and in the forums, but alas, I can't figure out how to get them to work.

After re-starting SAB with the new ports, you should now see this:

http://pic.leech.it/i/79984/3c76fb1dnewsgroups.png (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=3c76fb1dnewsgroups.png)

So as you can see we need to change a few things. Click Config. You can do a multitude of things in here, change themes, set up passwords, change download directorys, add TV show sorting, and most important add those IPv6 servers.

Click servers, now these are the 2 free IPv6 servers, just add them and the host and choose how many connection you want, I choose 2. Enter 1 at a time:

news.ipv6.eweka.nl
reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl

I used one as a backup, but you use both at the same time and pick how many connections you want.

http://pic.leech.it/i/f4b46/f65bfa7bnewsgroups.png (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=f65bfa7bnewsgroups.png)

After we've done all that we can grab some NZB's, remember these 2 servers only have a retention of 100 days.

I've uploaded a few for the community...

As you can see, you can add the URL or NZB to SAB, and if you already running SAB it will auto grab the NZB when you
select it from a webpage.

http://pic.leech.it/i/943f5/47bb9b84newsgroups.png (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=47bb9b84newsgroups.png)

Click browse for the NZB and then click add. And then check queue and see the files that you are downloading.

http://pic.leech.it/i/42b83/d9ad67acnewsgroups.png (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=d9ad67acnewsgroups.png)

You file will download to the preset/or the one you said directory...

Comments welcome, and if you need I can re-clarify my guide, this is a rough guide and should at least get you started.

If you want just a free news server and don't want to use the IPv6 then heres: freebin.readnews.com

You can use SABnzbd, or NewsBin Pro (I use this for Giganews), or Newsleecher or GrabIt (freeware) or any other client you prefer.

hey great guide sonsofliberty.

1 correction though.
newsdemon doesnt offer free news service to college students.
its faculty/staff only.

thx for the infos

**edit**

sonsofliberty;

im following your steps here, but im stuck at the internet connection sharing step
i right clicked on my internet NIC (connection)
and went to advanced.
then ticked "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection."

problem is, i have no dropdown box like you do where i can select the Hexago Virtual Tunnel connection (ipv6) adapter. :ermm:

wtf ?

I think that might have to do with that I have 3 cards, Wireless, NIC and Virtual Tunnel.

After that it should be shared...I think, if not post back.

Note, my guide hasn't proved effect for me yet, it's had varying results. But free is free :)

Nice guude SonsOfLiberty. I'm assuming once I get all this going on Windows, I'll actually be able to do my downloading in Linux?

And I wonder how long they're going to keep these servers open for free.

I have set this up using the Go6 method. However I cannot get my alt.binz to connect. I am using the bat with this

netsh interface portproxy add v4tov6 listenport=1119 connectaddress=news.ipv6.eweka.nl connectport=119
netsh interface portproxy add v4tov6 listenport=1118 connectaddress=newszilla6.xs4all.nl connectport=119

cd C:\Program Files\altbinz\
altbinz.exe

Now I can use the SABnzb program to download no problem, however I would prefer to use my alt.binz. Everytime it loads it says it cannot connect to either the eweka or newszilla servers. I am using WinXP and have my wireless connection shared and also went ahead and shared ports 118, 119 and 1119, 1118. When I visit kame.net and Go6 I see that I do have the IPv6 connection but I just cannot figure out why my alt.binz wont connect but SABnzb can. Anyone got any ideas?

SonsOfLiberty
02-10-2009, 02:57 AM
See I could never figure that out either, I just used SABnzb because it worked flawlessly, so there is some kind of hard code to use for the other clients, and I have no idea what it is.

sherpajosh
02-10-2009, 03:18 PM
I think it has something to do with WinXP because I know other people that have done it with Vista and they can use alt.binz, newsleecher, or grabit no problem. I believe it has something to do with the sharing of the internet connection with the Go6 connection. At least thats the only explanation I can think of.

New Gateway6 Client released - Please upgrade

03.13.2009

Gateway6 Client 6.0 has been released. It will be required to upgrade to the client in order to use the new Freenet6 service. The client can be downloaded at http://go6.net/4105/download.asp

As part of the changes being made to the Freenet6 service the Gateway6 server names have been changed. Anonymous users should now use anonymous.freenet6.net and registered users should use authenticated.freenet6.net

lets talk IPv6 user to user news peering.
lets talk Ipv6 news servers.
lets talk IPv6 FreeNet.

these are just a few i quickly found, i dont know if they work for our purposes in IPv6 land, or how we might put all these bits together for my proposed community news peering, using our limited ISP upload rates and SABnzbd+ as our core downloader, but its something to consider...

that way we dont have to worry so much about a single feed going down as we could be pulling and pushing (not worked out how to do or make that yet ?)

some form of annon DHT for our end user news servers would be a very good way to auto collect up groups of binary servers, and perhaps a way to collectively share our drive space storage so that no parts get lost for to long....

lots of options anyway
here an open java based DHT http://bamboo-dht.org/tutorial.html

a temp thing or have they now closed the free access?

its time to talk IPv6 news peering in the old style, were we the end users all setup our own IPv6 small newsservers and setup news pulls and share or Pool each others news servers over our limited ISP upload WANs using SABnzbd+ as the multi server front end perhaps...

a quick search gives a few things but i dont know if they are true IPv6 capable

yeah your right SonsOfLiberty, it did come back for me later...

i really like SABnzbd+ as its the only one iv found that works remotely, and in "bonded" modes too, plus can be 3rd party extended OC, so thanks for your second post on the thread refering to that.

BTW i think i found a bug in the current SABnzbd+ 0.4.9,and the one before it at least(thats all i tryed) a real show stopper after getting those errors above.

were do we report these bugs and get feedback threads ?, any idea, perhaps the SABnzbd+ Devs are here and reading this and related SABnzbd+ thread?

it appears that the once you set and get 2 or more servers set for "bonded" download (as apposed to "Backup server:") and get those "ERROR [newswrapper] Failed to connect: (10061, 'Connection refused') ..." the core demon sabd gets blocked or locks up and stops all data flow from the other threads working...

in effect you have to click que/pause,go to setting/servers,and set the problem server(s) as backup, and save the settings, THEN kill the sabd in memory somehow, to then restart it from the shell, and providing it saved the backup settings you can then unpause it and it works again.

i cant work out of its the core sabd server crashing or just being fed data it cant handle and so endless loops, locking the other input/ouput ,in effect the same thing, data stops flowing and you CANT use it again until you have done the above and restart the sabd demon....

PS. the Hurricane http://tunnelbroker.net/ doesnt work with Nated 3G connections but http://go6.net/ does, works great infact so use that wereever you need it.

not found a small self contained working IPv6 News server/DNS i could use on go6's auto supplyed "delegated user domain" for the given IP's http://go6.net/4105/freenet.asp , anyone got any hints, pointers to URLS for such apps used.working with go6 IPv6 etc!!

I'm on Vista. Opera works with IPv6, Firefox doesn't. This is both before and after I installed the Gateway6 Client. In other words, the client has no bearing... other than auth for the network. If not for that, I could remove it. Right?

Well Newsleecher and others won't until you do this:

1.cmd>netsh interface portproxy add v4tov6 listenport=119 connectaddress=news.ipv6.eweka.nl connectport=119
2.server address- localhost

If you can load SABnzbd via Opera you should be fine.

Wwwildthing
04-26-2009, 04:17 AM
SABnzbd loads from Opera just fine. I gave it the same paramaters as the Gateway6 Client and an nzb to process... it attempts to connect, but just times out.

So then I loaded the Gateway6 Client and let it connect, then ran SABnzbd again... gave it the same nzb and it attempts to connect... but as before, it just times out.

Are you doing it just like in the guides at the front of this page?

Vista comes with IPv6 enabled, Opera confirms it. If I load SABnzbd and a nzb it should go like a bandit. It's not connecting.

So I load the Gateway6 Client, it connects. Then I load SABnzbd and a nzb, and it still fails to connect.

SABnzbd is using the same login data as the Gateway6 Client.

Now walk me forward from that.

SonsOfLiberty
04-27-2009, 01:19 AM
Is the "tunnel adapter" and your internet adapter shared? They have to be or nothing will connect. I think it has something to do the way sabnzb is configured...can you try another client too? The Gateway client will need to run and you can do this trick with newsleecher (I'm just trying to figure it out, if NL will work then it's SABnzbd config, if not, we will go from there.)1.cmd>netsh interface portproxy add v4tov6 listenport=119 connectaddress=news.ipv6.eweka.nl connectport=119
2.server address- localhost

Also, you might restart from the beginning, just re-do everything and makes sure everything is setup right. There's something somewhere, I'm trying, but I can't think of anything...besides above.

Wwwildthing

The computer is connected directly to the cable modem via lan port.

Under 'Network Connections' it shows the gateway tunnel (when enabled) on Local Area Connection 4 with a red x. When I click 'diagnose', it prompts me to plug a cable into the network adapter. The 'properties' tab shows the 'adapter' to be working correctly. The display screen of the gateway client shows an active connection.

-------

cmd > netsh interface portproxy add v4tov6 listenport=119 connectaddress=authenticated.freenet6.net connectport=119

SonsOfLiberty
04-27-2009, 02:24 AM
elevation means run as "admin"

You internet adapter need to be shared with the tunnel adapter.

So it shows it like this?
These are XP! screenshots and walkthrough, Vista and Windows 7 are similar in their settings, I DO NOT know how to connect when IPv6 is already installed, I just know the go6 client (it installs IPv6 support and the tunneling software, so I assume, you would use the cmd prompts to facilitate "news reader clients" to work and Opera as well.

http://pic.leech.it/i/543b2/fe5bd6f9newsgroups.png

if so, Right click on you internet connection, click Advanced: and you should see this:

http://pic.leech.it/i/2dec0/ee34b6aanewsgroups.png

Tick, Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection. And Then select the Hexago Virtual Tunnel connection.

(leave unticked 'allow other network users to control or disable the share internet connetion'.)

http://pic.leech.it/i/3bdaf/eb71ecd3newsgroups.png

Reboot, and then start go6 and all should be good.

I'm using Windows XP with SP3.

I signed up at Tunnelbroker. I got the following error:

Error: Your IPv4 endpoint is unreachable or unstable. Please make sure ICMP is not blocked.

I googled "enable icmp windows xp" and did the following:

Control Panel > Network Connections > Right-clicked on my connection, Properties > Advanced > Windows Firewall, Settings > Advanced > ICMP, Settings > Check Allow incoming echo request

I got the same error again.

I went to go6.net, registered, and installed the Gateway6 client.

I was unable to share my internet connection (ethernet behind a router on a cable modem) with that connection.

It kept saying:
Internet Connection Sharing cannot be established.

A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing.

I gave up on that.

In uTorrent > Options > Prefences > General, I clicked Install IPv6/Teredo and nothing happened AFAIK.

I ran these two commands in Windows:
netsh interface ipv6 install
netsh interface ipv6 set teredo client

And looked at this forum:
http://forum.go6.net/viewtopic.php?t=99

I added 3653 to the port forwarding settings in my router (since apparently Gateway6 uses that port to establish the tunnel).

Gateway6 was able to connect to authenticated.freenet6.net with my username and password.

Finally, go6.net showed my IPv6 address (after restarting Firefox). And I saw the flying turtle at kame.net.

But the following newsservers don't work in Grabit:
reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl
newszilla6.xs4all.nl
news.ipv6.eweka.nl

I already have an Astraweb account (that works in Grabit), but only use it sparingly.

I also ran this command with no effect:

i dont know if its just me but for the last few days at night around 12 am, news.ipv6.eweka.nl aways seems to stop allowing connections after a few seconds of starting SAB+, even though its pingable and up, news.ipv6.eweka.nl being the one that seems to retains more for longer as i got a few 170ish days old files last month on that.

also it seems newszilla6.xs4all.nl doesnt seem to have several files from only 34 days ago (bones-s1e1 etc)odd not having a month old set of files id thought.....

for me ateam201, i can get a solid 500Kbit/s - 570Kbit/s on 3 or 4 threads when it works, and i dont take to much upload bandwidth in other things (no more than 5Kbit/s uploading in torrents to get the missing usenet files for instance) while im downloading from IPv6 go6/freenet6 tunnel usenet on a 512k upload and 10Mbit download connection.

it seems almost as if Go6 give you a ballanced download close to the same as your upload limit, symmetrical i think they call it ?

anyone else noticed that? its odd that you or at least i cant download a lot faster if its not setting up a symmetrical connection based on your fastest upload rate from your ISP....

do we have any more usable servers coming online and made available ?, be it IPv6 or even free IPv4 with the usual several months binary retention and a list of dayily files they contain ?

or has anyone or group of users with several faster upload connections or co-location sites to share, seen fit to run their own small darknet binary news servers x264,divx,mp4,tv,dvd rather than mega big BR, we could share here and get involved, with instructions to follow for newbs news server setup ?

it seems SAB+ could take several or even many slower users servers and combine them all togeher to make a fast community usenet like the old days BUT far BETTER if we end users can find an easy way to setup and share.

I've not heard of any IPv6 or more free IPv4 ones yet, most people like to keep those servers to there selves, I don't know why, I guess because those free servers would get full really quickly. I took a bit to find what's in this thread.

for over a day now both servers have stopped working.....for me at least.

while newszilla6.xs4all.nl is not even pingable here,i assume its HW's been taken down and/or offline ?

news.ipv6.eweka.nl as almost always, is still pingable, BUT apparently not running the news ipv6 server SW anymore as even telnetting to port 119 doesnt seem to return anything there for over 24 hours, logs seem to indicate no data flowing just after 5am tuesday morning.

anyone else seeing this form the UK Virginmedia connections at least ?

RIAA claims victory in Usenet.com copyright case

'Direct, contributory, vicarious infringement'

"Quote:
A US district judge has ruled in favour of the Recording Industry Ass. of America (RIAA) in the copyright case brought against Usenet.com that kicked off in autumn 2007.

“We’re pleased that the court recognised not just that Usenet.com directly infringed the record companies’ copyrights but also took action against the defendants for their egregious litigation misconduct,” said the RIAA in a short statement yesterday.

...

Judge Harold Baer of the Southern District of New York court dished out the ruling. He found Usenet.com guilty of “direct, contributory, and vicarious infringement”.

There's no word yet on what penalty the judge has hit Usenet.com "

Bad news for all Usenet users. Whether you use it to download legal files or otherwise, you could find your provider hit anyway."'

again, perhaps we NEED to setup some free smaller binary usenet peering somewere, or i at least cant continue using it as is, shame.

do i take it then that the lack of replys means it's still working fine for you ?

this is really strange if so, as iv changed the tunnnel from amsterdam to montreal and got a new IP, but the news servers are still not there or refusing connection etc.... so its not an IP blocking thing, and with no changes to my once working SAB+ and no new OS or software additions since it stoped working....to account for it at my end.

im loath to go back to torrents full time as their so slow compared to these free binary usenet...

Don't know, don't use it anymore.. I said in the very beginning of the tutorial that these could stop working anytime, the IPv6 were just for testing.

Go back to torrents?

Try a free trial from Binverse or Giganews and you won't ever go back. If you decide you do want to pay (you will get your full bandwidth maxed when downloading, plus you don't have to seed)go with Astraweb it's $11 a month, or get a cheap block account at Astraweb which never expires.

if your on the go6/freenet6 tunnels it appears they had/still have a few IPv6 routing problems, but newszilla6.xs4all.nl:119 is working again today.

news.ipv6.eweka.nl:119: 0
reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl:119: 0
are still down though....

e94mli, Go6 Enthusiast and go6 servers tech guy said "It is not you. Xsnews is having some problems with the IPv6 service."
but no word on why eweka isnt working again, if it ever will.

yesturday you couldnt reach www.kame.net over V6 IPs, but you can today, at least logged in on the amsterdam.freenet6.net connection so somethings being worked on somewere it seems.

why go back, why not also include that IPv4 connection in your bonding SABnzbd+ 0.4.11 news app, it works fine for me.

currently i have both the newszilla6.xs4all.nl:119 and the news.virginmedia.com:119 set for first try, and the other IPv6 set as fallover/Backup server:.

if your on VM, setting news.virginmedia.com:119 with 5 connections seems to max out my connection mostly before STM kicks in OC, but their news groups and 7 day max retention with lots of cancelation requests are a slight problem.

id still like to see a web based or rss feed of what TV,film, and APPs going into all the popular news.virginmedia.com binry groups so as to then auto-select the newest nzb's if they show up there first before getting outbound peered with the other news servers later.

that way VM end user people and others might start to think about automating their own smaller selections for private end user to end users peering and sharing their content longer term way past the 7 days.

at a guess, id say your tunnelbroker.net is down or currently playing up at their end...

im on go6, and if i go to your url above i get redirected to

"

however my ipv6 is working fine as i get a dancing turtle at http://www.kame.net/

a valid ipv6 returned at the top of the http://forum.go6.net/ site and all the webpages i force through the sixxs.org by adding .sixxs.org to any DNS reachable web page to force it through their on the fly ipv6 usable cache works fine right now.

for instance this very page forced through it works fine if your ipv6 tunnel is working ok, notice the extra part of the URL on a base url section after the .com to force it through there. it a good way to instantly know if your ipv6 tunnels working at the time.

http://filesharingtalk.com.ipv6.sixxs.org/vb3/f-newsgroups-79/t-free-ipv6-news-servers-332959/page11#post3254114

if your tunnelbroker.net doesnt come back soon try installing a basic windows with ipv6 installed in a vitualbox, then make several copys for each tunnel operator you want to try...

i dont have a tunnelbroker.net account or virtuallbox image set up right now, so cant confirm it's down for you, but right now, the go6 tunnel and newszilla6.xs4all.nl:119: 4 green/green are working fine upto a Download speed: 606.61 KB/s currently on a 10Mbit/s UK VM connection if that helps you rule out these as part of your current problem!

were as news.ipv6.eweka.nl:119: 0
reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl:119: 0
have not worked for me on go6 in over 17 days now.

Hello!

We've added a new feature on the Regular Tunnel creation page. It will now automatically recommend the closest POP near the computer's IP you are browsing from. You can override the recommendation by simply clicking the "Override" button.

Some notes regarding this:
- If you are connected via a VPN to another location, it will determine based on that remote location's connection.
- If you use a proxy service, it will determine based on the proxy's connection.
- If you are trying to configure for a colocated/vps/dedicated server, simply click the "Override" button after it makes the recommendation and ping/trace to the listed IPs from your remote host.

Again, any problems or issues, please direct all replies to [email protected] "

it seems news.ipv6.eweka.nl:119: 4 started working again last night with go6 tunnels, its a little slow right now though....250Kbit/s is the best speed i can get at the moment.

i just realised if your new to this and didnt come across the https://www.sixxs.net/misc/coolstuff/#ipv6gate pages your going to need a user/password issued to you for reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl:119 , its working for me again on go6.

goto:
http://www.xsnews.com/ipv6/ and enter your valid email address in the deze pagina linked page, collect the email they send, then enter its info into your SAB+ reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl:119 4 user/password server bit.

Yo guys im new to this forum and to newsgroups and i would like to say thanks for all the useful information in this thread

I do need some help though, my go6 tunnel only establishes a connection when I have my ESET Smart Security firewall disabled. I was wondering if you all are aware of some general firewall settings that would allow me to have both the tunnel and the client up at the same time?:frusty:

any help would be sincerely appreciated

if the gateway6 tunnel GUI generic "IPv6-in-IPv4 Tunnel" setting isnt working for you on the primary PC connected to your ISP WAN BB from the outset due to your current firewall settings
(you did authorise the client app through the firewall and remember to also install the windows xp IPv6 dual stack ? ,“Open a cmd.exe window –> Type: “netsh interface ipv6 install” and press enter” )
the very next thing to try is to go into
gateway6/advanced/tunnel Mode and change it from the generic
"IPv6-in-IPv4 Tunnel" to the 3rd option
"IPv6-in-IPv4 Tunnel NAT Traversal"

that will probably get passed your current firewall settings , but you really need to read up and work out what you need to change in ESET Smart Security firewall as NT isnt as versatile as the first option....

at each changed step pressing "disconnect" then "reconnect" and waiting the the popup to return true or false , open a cmd shell and type ping6 newszilla6.xs4all.nl or any other IPv6 URL should be enough to tell you if the tunnels started working for you.

Oh sorry I forgot to mention a couple things . . . im actually trying to do this on a pc that is behind a wireless router. The primary internet connection is to a cable modem via ethernet. Also both computers are on vista, and thus have ipv6 already installed. I'm assuming the steps you mentioned above are for xp?

The NAT transversal option, and actually all of the other options, have not been able to get past my firewall. Another thing that concerns me is that I dont get a flapping turtle on kame.net, although sites like go6.net say that i have ipv6 and I am able to download from ipv6 servers (given that my firewall is down).

I have tried authorizing remote port 3653 UDP and TCP traffic, and some other firewall exceptions, but nothing seems to work.

working:
sab>vista>tunnel>wireless-router>cableBB>IPv6NewsServer

not working:
sab>vista>tunnel>firewall>wireless-router>cableBB>IPv6NewsServer

so clearly its not the wireless router or any internal firewall it might also have set with a problem...

that only leaves your PCs software firewall, theres just something clearly wrong there so thats were you need to concentrate your efforts it seems.

off the cuff thought, does this ESET firewall filter OFF the IPv6 traffic by default or something?, do a google search, i dont have time right now to do it, and see if others have problems with ESET firewall and ipv6 data packets.

perhaps you can totally uninstall it temp (sometime they leave things around, and still attached to the network stack if you just disable them), and put another make of SW firewall on there to see if that then works for you, if so you have to find the right settings for this ESET firewall or just not use it anymore until its fixed or you find the right settings.

"I dont get a flapping turtle on kame.net, although sites like go6.net say that i have ipv6 "

thats odd but iv no clue why it might be right now, you know its working when you take the broken software firewall out of the chain, so id assume turtle is just playing up for now.

well it turns out you were right I did a little research and turns out that lot of people are having issues in certain areas of the ESET's latest firewall. I installed the whole shabang on an xp computer that has the older version of ESET Smart security and everything works fine. Too bad the dl speed is really bad on it. Guess I'l have either revert to the older version or wait for a fix to come out.:dabs:

that working thx

1.where can i find more servers?(if there way)
2. why i need to change port everytime when i open again the program?
3. When the file start to download after x min it stopped download :S why?

beansis
07-28-2009, 09:10 PM
not sure about other servers but you only need to change the program to an open port on your pc, assuming yout talking aboud SABnzbd+. For example, if port 8080 is not available than u can change it to 8081 0r 8082 and so forth.

Also I'm thinking that you probably are restarting the SABnzbd+ instead of opening it in your web browser. You need to bookmark http://localhost:8080/sabnzbd/ and open it if you close the original web page that opened once you started SABnzbd+. Once you open SABnzbd+ it will run in the background and you can only terminate it by pressing shutdown in the home tab or through task manager. So if you keep opening the SABnzbd+ program it will search for a new port because there is an already existing SABnzbd+ process that is using your specified port.

The downloads stop if only if you get disconnected from the servers so its either something with the servers or the go6 tunnel. It could also be your connection if you have wireless.

Hope this helps . . .

question of my own . . . how would you monitor the bandwidth that is used by the ipv6 tunnel?
