Im looking for a new mb with processor and ram. Since i dont want to spend more than 250, im probably looking at an athlon xp. Im willing to sacrifice processor speed if it means i get a better quality motherboard. I've looked around and a lot of the motherboards only support up to say.. 2.25ghz. now, i may not get a socket a processor that is that fast, but i still want the option to upgrade without having to get a whole new mb again. Thanks for any help.

Mogadishu.

im really askin you guys cus im not sure where to get them from, as ive never bought parts online. Thanks.

Under $250 eh? you can allmost get the best one for about $200.
Make sure it has:
8x agp
USB 2.0
supports AMD Althon XP, or Intel P4.. Big difference.. whichever proccessor u like.
DDR Ram.. Trust me, it's worth buying new DDR ram if u only got SDram.. 256mb DDR runs the same as 512mb sdram pretty much.

Make sure the brand is Soyo Dragon, Gigabyte, or Asus

If u goin for intel board.. make sure it got support for 800mhz FSB.. u may already or end up getting they're CPU with 800mhz fsb. (normally most people got like 200mhz fsb on 1.0ghz+ cpu or so)

when i started reading it i got so excited.. but.. im looking for a motherboard, cpu, and memory under 250. i know i can get the best mb on the market for 180 or something, but leaves nothing for memory and cpu.

oh.
Well you can get an AMD Althon XP 2400 2.0ghz cpu for $70
A Gigabyte Mobo with 8x Agp 2.0 usb etc for $100
256mb DDR ram for $30-$40
check http://www.Pricewatch.com

I use the AMD Althon XP 2400 2.0ghz, I dont care if it's not some 3.0ghz p4.. It's fast as hell.. Runs XP like a charm

yea i used pricewatch.. always use it. i pretty much found what you mentioned.. but the ram was what would make it cost more than 250.. i eventually want 1 or 2gb of ram.. but atleast 512 for now.

Gigabyte boards are nice,I had an older board and I loved it.Very easy to over clock (if that is your thing) because you get a windows based overclocking utility with your board.I had an 800mhz Duron on my old board and I had it overclocked to 950mhz for nearly a year and never had a slight problem with it.
