What Does A KVM Switch Do?

Just curious as to what the advantage of getting a KVM switch on a seedbox would be and if its worth the extra money.

it allows you to have access to the boot of the server, meaning you can install even different OSes by yourself.
and all the other perks you can acknowledge with that.
