I read somewhere that if your online, websites or hackers can do a drive scan on your computer and see what all you have and what programs you have installed. Is there some type of software that can prevent them from doing this, (seeing what's on your comp), or does a firewall serve this purpose? Any help appreciated.

Don't you have sygate pro with stealth enabled yet? That's what it's for.

years ago it used to be the in thing to actually put a link to ppls harddrive on your site but the site owner never saw the files the only person that could see the files were the user thenselfs all they were doing was useing ie to see their files instead of explorer
haveing said that depending on your browser security settings it is possible to install programs and such on your comp it also used to to be the rage years ago to send someone to a web site where they would infect themself norm with subseven
so it may pay to have a look in your security setting in ie and change some of the "always" to ask first so you have a better idea on what is happening
