How do scene groups split their archives?

I've tried using WinRAR but got part1 instead of r01, Do you just rename the file extension?

did you try to just open .part1 and extract it?
i think that if all the files are named .partXX then is should work

I know how to extract archives it's that I need to save on characters. I just want to know, do you just rename the archive part from part1 to r01?

I dont remember how to do it, but I had done it once - extension r01. Cant seem to find now. There must be some option to change it.

Edit: Just found this in the help section of winrar.

By default RAR volumes have names like 'volname.partNNN.rar', where NNN is the volume number. Using -vn switch (http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/HELPSwVN.htm) it is possible to switch to another, extension based naming scheme, where the first volume file in a multi-volume set has the extension .rar, following volumes are numbered from .r00 to .r99.

He wants to make scene rar's with r01, r02, etc....

BTW- There using the older naming convention, like this:

somefile.r00
somefile.r01
somefile.r02

This is the newer naming convention:

somefile.part01.rar
somefile.part02.rar
somefile.part03.rar
